The May powder party continues with the latest snow-covered region including none other than Wyoming.

Powderchasers posted to Instagram, "May 8 and 10 inches overnight for Targhee. The Tetons are going off! Wishing Targhee was open today." See below.

Although Grand Targhee received 10 inches overnight, it seems the storm is over for the foreseeable future. Sunny days are on tap for the rest of the week according to their weather forecast.

With temperatures still cold enough to maintain the fresh snow, conditions are looking good for awhile.

Tomorrow, on Thursday, temperatures will range from the high 20s to the mid-30s (F), and on Friday temperatures will stay in the mid to high 30s.

Over the weekend, temperatures will rise into the high 30s and low 40s, topping off with a potential high of 47 degrees on Sunday, May 12th.

As Powderchasers stated, Grand Targhee is not open anymore, but it's nice to think about. The resort officially closed on April 21st.

Uphill travel is allowed off-season, although not right now, according to Grand Targhee's website. It will re-open on Friday.

Normally, during lift operating dates, uphill access is open between the hours of 4:30pm and 9:00am. This traffic is allowed on the Teton Vista Traverse via climbing skins or snowshoes.

Right now, travel is "at your own risk," and the ski area is considered “backcountry terrain". Potential hazards can include avalanches, heavy equipment pushing snow, over-snow vehicle traffic, road cuts, winch cables, and unmarked manufactured and natural hazards.

Ski Patrol will not be available to assist in case of an emergency. If one does arise, uphill travelers are advised to call 911. Motorized travel is not permitted on the mountain.

Also, despite the end of lift-accessible skiing at Grand Targhee, there are still plenty of summer events happening at the Wyoming resort, such as the 2024 Wrun for Wray Targhee Hill Climb, the Teton Valley Pride Alliance Pride Fest, and the Wildflower Run, to name a few.

There is even a mountain biking race on July 27th-28th.

Snow coming down in May is special. But, given that the resort is closed, this may not be as exciting to skiers in the area as much as a good omen for next season.
