ESPN analysts' projections suggest the Raiders will have the same problem in 2024 they had last season
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Significant issues, particularly at quarterback, marred the Las Vegas Raiders' 2023 season. Even Aidan O'Connell struggled as a rookie thrust into the starting role without much preparation. This disappointing performance has left many of us questioning the team's strategy.

Now, the Raiders are entering the offseason with no rookie quarterback, something everyone wanted them to get. It all started at pick No. 8. The Atlanta Falcons were on the clock and about to do the craziest thing we had seen in years. After giving Kirk Cousins a huge contract in free agency, which is fully guaranteed through 2025, they decided they should draft quarterback Michael Penix at No. 8.

The Raiders, despite their need for a quarterback, missed out on the opportunity to trade up for Jayden Daniels, who was picked No. 2 overall by the Washington Commanders. Instead, they settled for Michael Penix, their top prospect. This decision, coupled with their contentment with O'Connell and Minshew, could have significant implications for the team's performance in 2024.

While Minshew is certainly better than Jimmy Garoppolo and could be better than O'Connell next season, that is not the upgrade the Raiders needed to make. And honestly, it could jeopardize their season in 2024.

One ESPN analyst, Mike Clay, has already done his statistical projections for each team, and on the Raiders offense, it doesn't look good for the quarterbacks.

Honestly, it looks very similar to last year. Or it looks like he thinks one quarterback will start the first half of the season and then get benched, and the other one will finish the season, much like last season.

The stats we see him projecting for the Raiders' weapons is great. He has Adams going over 1,200 yards and Zamir White just under 900 rushing yards, as all three of the running backs on the 53-man roster also have some decent yardage.

Outside of the quarterback situation he has the Raiders having, these stats look fairly good for 2024. If they can figure out their QB situation, this offense could be unstoppable.
