Jordin Canada, Lorela Cubaj both out for Dream vs. Mercury
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Atlanta Dream have arrived in the Valley as they get set to face the Phoenix Mercury tonight, but they will be without two players because of different circumstances.

Dream Game Status

OUT – Jordin Canada (right hand)
NWT (NOT WITH TEAM) – Lorela Cubaj (overseas obligation)

After four seasons (2018-21) with the Seattle Storm and the last two with the Los Angeles Sparks, Canada was traded to Atlanta in the offseason. In a new situation with the Dream, the Los Angeles native has yet to play this season as she also missed the 83-80 win over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. With the Sparks last year, Canada started in all 38 games she played in, averaging 13.3 points, six assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while also earning WNBA All-Defensive First-Team honors.

Cubaj is not with the team as she is overseas. She has played two seasons in the WNBA starting with the New York Liberty and last season with the Dream. The Italian has played 14 games and averaged 0.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. She also plays for Umana Reyer Venezia in the LBF (Lega Basket Femminile), a professional women’s basketball league in Italy.

For the Mercury, star Brittney Griner (foot) is out for her second game of the season while Rebecca Allen is questionable with a back issue. More details on Allen’s status will come out pregame.

In Phoenix’s home opener of the 2024 season, tip against the Dream begins at 7 p.m. PT inside Footprint Center.
