Report: Phoenix Suns Makes Clear-Cut Statement On Trading Superstars In The 2024 Offseason
Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns have one of the most talented rosters on paper. Between Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker, there is no shortage of offensive firepower. However, it has not translated to the court. While injuries played a role this season, the team never looked comfortable on the court together, and they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Now, many analysts are calling for the Suns to blow it up and trade some of their superstars. Suns GM James Jones made his stance clear on his offseason plans in a recent interview.

Phoenix Suns GM On Superstar Trade Rumors

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM tweeted out that Phoenix Suns GM James Jones says there is “no scenario” where Durant, Booker, or Beal are traded this offseason. The three superstars “aren’t going anywhere,” according to Jones. This was the first season the three players were on the same team, and they spent very few minutes on the court together due to injuries. Phoenix seems content to try again next year.

On the one hand, this isn’t a bad plan for the Phoenix Suns. They will have a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer who could add some wrinkles to the overall scheme that will help the team. While plenty of things went wrong, this team still managed to capture the sixth seed in the Western Conference. On the other hand, the Suns might be better off blowing it up.

A Murky Future

The Phoenix Suns have the 22nd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. They will not pick in the first round until after the 2030 season after that. The team gave up a boatload of picks to acquire Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. It has left them with limited resources to improve the team. There is a real scenario where the Suns fail to reach the NBA Finals in the next few years. Then, with an aging roster and no picks, the team suffers for years to come.

It isn’t a horrible plan to rely on some of the greatest scorers in the league for another year. However, the Phoenix Suns might need to consider what their plan for the future is. While they may not have plans this offseason to trade any of their players if they start next season off slow they may be able to get a contender to give them a king’s ransom for Durant, Booker, or Beal.
