Have any of your comments disappeared? Please let me explain

Hello to the Yard.

Please accept our apologies. While rolling out some new features this week, a number of comments on the site mysteriously disappeared. This was a bug. We did not censor any comments that did not violate the Yard's terms of service, and we understand why you're upset that they disappeared. It was not censorship, and we definitely regret that this bug occurred. As they say... my bad.

We've fixed this bug, and I've gone through and republished all the comments that mysteriously disappeared; however, if you know of any that are still missing, please email feedback@yardbarker.com or reply on this post with a link to the article in question (and/or your user name). I will do my best to get your comment restored. Thank you.

Sumit

And how do you propose to fix the problem of certain creeps (FIVERINGS aka romorules and 20 others) who harass long time members on here and have driven them from this site? You guys were made well aware of some of these cases and promised action and you have done NOTHING. Some of us would like to talk about sports. We do not want to deal with some 50 year old loser who rarely discusses anything sports related. You're a joke, Dewey is a joke....fix your site or you will lose credibility very quickly.

Thanks for your feedback, DTRIK19. We're working hard daily to make the Yard a better place, and we agree there are things that can be done to improve the experience. We will continue to move toward that goal. We take user feedback (both positive and negative) seriously, and we encourage you to email us at feedback@yardbarker.com. You can also report site abuse and/or user harassment to that email, and if you see content in the Yard that violates our terms of service, please thumb it down and flag it appropriately (inappropriate, spam, miscategorized). Our tools aren't perfect, but we do have a plan in place to make them better. Thanks.

You also have empty promises it appears. Say goodbye to CK and Jared360. YOU personally drove them away. Funny how specific emails, posting of other peoples privates pictures and other blatant abuses that were proven and done so easily were presented to you in a manner that a 3rd grader could figure out and you turned the other cheek. You may have a "plan" in place, but you certainly are not implementing it or are incapable of implementing said plan.

come on cuz, stop hatin on D-Man like that....he's tryin to fix it

i'm an IT guy so I know how it feels. I'm just happy that it wasn't someone personally picking out my messages and deleting them cuz that takes away my voice which would take away the whole point of the site. Anyway as long as it's fixed going forward and you admitted the problem we're good.

On another note, you guys do need to put some controls on personal messages. I've gotten a personal message from someone who didn't have the guts to put them out in the open and you are welcome to check my box. Consider it a complaint against that user.

People hiding behind their computers are a totally different animal. Either allow us to control who can send us messages or do something about abusive users.

Thanks!

Geez DTRIK chill out. It can't be that bad. And calling people a joke when they are working on the issue.Plus, you know he's not going to respond in a negative way.

Thanks Checkmate. To be fair though, DTRICK is correct on some levels. In terms of our planning and execution of that plan, its been in a solid state of flux since the beginning. The site was originally designed as merely a "Digg for Sports" type site, and then started massively evolving into what it is today. Had we known what we were going to adapt into, this would have all been a little easier to plan and account for. I'm not sure how we're perceived, as a company, from the outside, but we really just did our first real round of hiring in the last month (our last engineering hire will be starting on the 9th!), and there's ramp up time associated with that. As much as I would love to be able to crank out the privacy features as fast as even I originally thought we could, the day to day nature of the job changed as our profile started getting bigger. I found myself writing more emails than code.

That being said, I cannot state strongly enough how excited I am about our engineering team. I completely understand the frustration when there are existing issues on the site and you see new products roll out like Picks and lists. Id be asking too why havent the original issues been solidly tackled first. There's numerous reasons for it but the primary one is that we cant take a brand new person and toss them into the code of our existing products because it would literally just be dangerous to the site stability.

We've figured out and got a flow in place to crank out features and upgrades to the site and now its just getting the new engineers comfortable navigating the code for what already exists. Ban lists/Privacy features, I can honestly say will be AT LEAST 1 engineers solid proejct for a long while to come. As additional resources (and hopefully myself!) free's up we'll be devoting time towards these features as well. But... this is all talk at this point, its put up or shut up time, so Im getting back to work =)

I really hope the newbies dont read this and their ego's swell.

sumit, you're still the man!

Ditto Sam =)

I've worked with these guys since they were 4 people in a basement in Berkeley. I'm still a contractor so take this for what its worth as a combined inside/outside perspective:

They're straight shooters. Cut Dewey some slack here. We're well aware of the issues -- they're not as simple or as monochromatic as some might think -- and working to to address them.
