Phillies come up short in late comeback, lose 8-6 to Braves

Brett Myers dug the Phillies a hole they couldn't quite find their way out of. Myers pitched one of his worst games in recent memory, allowing 8 runs in just 4 and 1/3 innings. Things started off terrible for Myers, who gave up a lead-off home run to Yunel Escobar and then let up another homer to Chipper Jones two batters later. In all, the Braves tagged Myers for 9 hits and 3 home runs en route to an 8-6 win over the Phillies.

Once Myers left the game, the Phillies bullpen did what it does best: shut the opposition down. Ryan Madsen, Clay Condrey and Rudy Seanez combined to shut out the Braves the rest of the way and opened the door to a Phillies comeback.

1st of all...why on Earth was he playing Victorino so deep? I've heard of a no doubles defense, but against Shane that was some luck on their part. It should have never come down to that though. Myers needs to figure things out because he sucks right now. Could have something to do with his reluctance to long toss before games but who knows whats up with him. The guy has a bidet in his bathroom so there could be a list of things going on with him.

How about that bullpen though? 4.2 shutout innings against the best hitting team in baseball on a night the ball was flying out of the park. Howard had some good swings, Utley keeps putting up his great numbers, the hole was just too big to climb out of.

The Phils just need average pitching from their starters, their offense will take care of the rest. Unfortunately, Myers has been far from average.

Up until last night he was just that...average. Didn't help him much last night that the ball was flying out of the yard...but fastballs right down the pike don't help much either. I could understand the one to Johnson...but to Chipper? Just walk his azz 3-4 times tonight and we'll be fine. Actually now that I think of it, he was pretty average last night too...just made too many dumb pitches. he did have 6 K's, so add that to the bonehead pitches and you end up somewhere in the mediocrity realm of things I guess.

Yeah it was a strange first few innings, he would either strike the guy out or they would hit a homer. I think he's relying on his fastball too much.

on lack thereof a fastball! 91 mph? damn brett, get off your bidet and get that arm in shape. Maybe I jinxed him by using his bathroom? If thats the case I certainly apologize haha
