The Legend of Kimbo is Dead!

After the piss poor prime-time performance the legend of Kimbo Slice is no more.

I have to say that I was greatly disappointed in Kimbo Slice. I am a avid fan of MMA and therefore I was aware of the competition that Elitexc was pitting against Kimbo. No disrespect to James Thompson, however I have seen Thompson beaten very bad in several fights. To think that Thompson (who is mediocre on a good day) physically controlled Slice one shutters to think of what would happen if a legit contender in the heavyweight division put Slice on his back. I see Kimbo getting hurt very bad if he fights a Gabriel Gonzaga, Heath Herring, and a whole sleugh of other skilled or semi skilled heavyweights. Shame on CBS I suppose. CBS took a guy, built him up far beyond his capability, and are currently feeding him stiffs to make a quick buck. When a true heavyweight meets Slice in the octagon it is gonna be dangerous.

And then they stop the fight before it's even over so they can continue to make money off him.
I'm over it.

Make you wait through three hours of hype, too. What a joke. Not sure if it was ended too early though. The guy was practically out on his feet. I think they don't stop a lot of the MMA fights soon enough anyway.

I agree that they take too long to end some fights - but Kimbo was on the ground getting his face punded & they didn't stop it then.
I just think something is rotten in Elite XC....

Not any different than boxing. Fights have been rigged for years in boxing, so why not the MMA? It's all about the money, especially when they are trying to promote someone up like Slice. It's a fun sport to watch, just like boxing, but the corruption will take hold of it like it does anything else where there is a ton of money to be made.

the guy took the best kimbo had and didnt fall. KIMBO WAS UNABLE TO KNOCK HIM OUT WITH HIS BEST HAYMAKER! he's no mike tyson, he's just a youtube created barfighter

He's a little rough around the edges. If he would have started his MMA career a few years ago, we would probably be seeing a formidable oppenent. He still needs some work, but by the time he gets to where he needs to be, he'll be too old for the sport.

im so glad the whole kimbo hype is over..the dude is garbage..he got heavy hands thats all..elite xc is so bull..the end fights way too early..they kept standing kimbo and the thompson dude up ..just so kimbo had a better chance to knock him out..but that tompson guy was workin out kimbos head on the ground , he couldnt dfend himself the fight should have been stopped then..stick him in the cage with a REAL heavyweight from the UFC..and watch gay KIMBO get worked..kimbo sux..im glad..he was supposed to have been training hardcore..but was tired after 3 minutes and couldnt even do the interview..wha a achump

and they hyped this sorry A** tompson up like he was something special...please..theses guys are lame..therer is no comp in the elite xc..except the wannabees and hasbeens.

He's just beginning, he'll get better.

I think that you guys are really hating him to much I mean really it was only his 3rd fight and he is still undefeated. But yes they hyped him up a lot.

I really wanted to see him do well - but I think Elite xc did him a dis-service by not letting him develop before putting him on national tv like that.

he has trained for quite some time, 3 matches against nobodies, 3 wins. big deal, Kimbo is old and i hope he made enough off this fight to set him straight

he looked to me like he was resting under there when dude was on top of him. Clearly his ground game is weak, but he didnt look hurt when he got up, just winded. but on the other hand thompson was out on his feet, kimbo throws (accurate) bombs.it was only his 3rd fight, he'll improve.

I believe a lot of MMA fans and fighters included are angry at the OPPORTUNITY that Kimbo got to show case his skills straight from the streets to major broadcast viewing. A few success stories happen and he's one of them. I don't think any of you would feel the hatred had YOU been given the same opportunity. He's use to beating his opponent by knocking them to the ground. What man jumps on the ground and says come down here and beat me at your ground game. The objective of ANY fight is not to go to the ground. If for any reason your'e knocked to the ground your fight game should exhibit some skills to help you manuver back to your feet for a entertaining fight. I think the ground game was implemented for some COWARDS who cant face the bombs thrown to the head so they try to bitch hold you on the ground and get away with a cheezy win by tying you up. In all reality go to any fight trying to go to the ground and you will get STOMPED!. Kimbo has no experience in mixed martial arts but he has the number one strategy KICK ASS WHILE YOU LEARN. Quit hating he's taken advantage of a golden opportunity and getting paid.

YOU.... have no buisness watching mma... BOXING, mabe your sport... It's a shame knowing that there are thousands of fans like you continue to watch mma who don't respect the ground game!!! you oviously don't know what it feels like to get choked out, armbar, ect......ive had my fair share, and also dished them out as well!! There's nottin chezzy about it...

All I hear is a simple retort from someone who doesn't truly know what MMA is all about. It's in the name "Mixed Martial Arts". If it was just about standing up, they would call it something else, like maybe...boxing or kickboxing. Oh wait, they already have those sports. Any true MMA fan knows one glorious phrase, "Ground and Pound".

kimbo couldnt defend himself by no means on the ground..the rule is if a fighter cant defend himself the fight must be stopped..clearly he couldnt..and y would ref stand the fight up..Y? i know y? so it could give kimbo a better chance to land a knock out..just for there ratings..there would be no way the wec or nfc would have stood them up..its called integrity of the sport..put in some ground work..thats y its called MMA..not boxing.

shakim..wow..the ground game is for cowards..wow..u tell that to the entire ju-jitsu nation..its called MMA..he a success story for beating up bums in backyards..40 yr old tank abbott..all he has is 3 minute of punching. after that hes a vegetable..u take EVERY elite boxer and put him in the cage in the weight class..and then take the UFC elite..MMA fighters would break'em up everytime..kimbo isnt fighting anyone good. he barely beat that scrub..u apparently have no respect for the sport.

Once again ground work is for cowards. Who says lets go to the ground. What man wants a sweaty ass man lying all over them for any length of time. That would drive any real MAN crazy. There's nothin wrong with fighting on the ground once you're thrown to the ground and you trying to stay competitive. But just to blatenly say lets go to the ground because you can't fight on your feet somethings wrong. Just as it's obvious Kimbo needs some work in other areas than punching, afighter that can't fight standing up needs a whole lot more work.

Another WWE moron!

Everyone keeps saying put Kimbo against the elite. What fighter starts off fighting the champ? You have to work your way up the ladder. Like I forstated he's taking advantage of a opportunity. HE knows he has to train harder. In the mean time what's wrong with collecting wins while you learn.

What fighter starts in his 30's? That's a better question.

There are many points during the Kimbo fight that was questionable as to when the Ref should have stopped the bout. Many zone in on the one that Kimbo was on his back. Yes he was winded obviosly from smoking those kool miles or whatever he smokes. He was not stunned by the love taps Thompson was giving him. But no one wants to zone in on another opportunity the ref could have stopped the fight when Kimbo was on the verge of ripping Thompson's neck off his shoulder blade. And had the fight not been stopped when it did Kimboo clearly had the advantage. It was a ugly win for Kimbo but don't dicredit him by sayin the fight was fixed.

It's not just Elite XC hyping Kimbo up, it's the fans. I mean, he's presented as a total badass that kicks 350-pound men's asses with bare fists. People eat that up.

But yes, it looked pretty sloppy, and he got really tired. He's like George Foreman in his younger days: Knocks most fools out so quick, he's never been pushed to the limit. He'll have to work on getting durability and dealing with the grappling. He'll get beat by seasoned, good fighters.

these new wave of mma fans are coming over fom the wwe...how sad..

kimbo is huge right now... and they need him to be succesful... Becaus ethey have a lot invested in him... If Kimbo is Succesful he will take the sport to a new level... and they will do everything they can to make sure he is,,

You should appreciate what Kimbo is doing for the sport. Whether he can hang in the ring with the best fighters doesn't matter at this point. He's drawing attention to the sport which will only bring bigger paydays for everyone. Is the hype overdone, sure, but what sport doesn't want the attention? The longer his star shines the better because it will lead to a mega fight - same thing happened in boxing with Tommy Hears. His rise and eventual showdown with Sugar Ray Leonard was huge and helped create great interest in the sport.

Disappointing, but Kimbo still won it. Practically knocked that "alien life form" ear right off Thompsons head. I think Thompson should have that thing removed by a surgeon. Anyways, Kimbo does need to learn more wrestling skills and learn how to kick out or reverse holds on an opponent - (For real, not WWF let me up stuff). But would anyone want to get hit with one of Kimbos punches.... Nah.....
And if he smokes, then he needs to quit. He's 34 and won't have very long in this sport against 20 something fighters, especially if he's huffing carbon monoxide

Here is my take - OVER-HYPED...YES, but having said that it WAS an entertaining and 'fair' (from the stand point of equal competition) fight. It was clear that Thompson wasnt as good as he was claimed to be! It was also clear the Kimbo did NOT know what he was doing (groud work and defense) - but yet and still THAT is exactly what made it entertaining. Remember - prime time = ENTERTAINMENT! So it was more than evident that there was some 'instructions' as to how to fight. Case and point is that almost every fight if not all - were more standing and 'boxing' than I can remember in ANY pay per view fight. If this was a pay per view event that fight would have continued, but I would be willing to bet you that since 1) it was the first prime time network TV event and 2) dudes ear was busted and bleeding the way it was - the fight was stopped. Can you imagine the back lash they would have received if they would have let that ear bleed and still let that fight continue?? Kimbo will get better and the Network TV fights will slowly start resembling fights on pay per view - its just a matter of time!

heres what happed if you all look at them when there standing up kimbo taps but ref diddnt see it and he tapped 3times on james elbo fight shouldve been stopped period thats why bret rogers told the press and kimbo slice that he tapped now james is no fedor or randy and the first time i saw james thompson he fought fedors brother and james got knocked out this fight was so full of hype sad to see fights like this in mma

KIMBO is a word in th Bahamas that means OLD hahaha

here is the facts. Kimbo is a sub par mixed martial artist and that is it. anybody who thinks they are a contender after just a few months training on the mat is out of their mind. I loved kimbo is his internet contests and no doubt that he had to take the money offered to him. But kimbo will never make a name for himself as a true contender in MMA. To be the baddest you have to be capable of beating the baddest. So until he calls Dana white asking to fight Gonzaga, silvia or any other real fighter he will be a joke to true fans. Even if he gets some big wins, Randy Coutre can come out of retirement(again) and slap kimbo around with little fear of his heavy hands. If showtime found their poster boy, i think i would rather pay for UFC ppv than watch showtime for free... unless the hot Gina Corrano is fighting!

kimbo brings the wrong kind of attention to the mma...no skill..just a puncher..i enjoy a technical fight..some slugfests' are good....u guys say he will get better..when..when hes 40..hes not "the natural"..and raven..whats ur point about "would u wanna gethit by kimbos punches"?..who the hell wants to get punched period..bye bye kimbo..u suk

Kimbo creates a debate. he gets people talking about the sport. Like him or not, good or bad, doesn't matter. He is generating interest for the sport and that's a good thing. Ultimately he will have to face someone with talent and if he doesn't improve dramatically he'll get destroyed, which end the hype machine that he has become. But in the meantime, that hype is good for the game, even if he's not very good.
