Obviously LeBron didn't read my "Open Letter" to him a couple of weeks ago about him being a "drama queen." Last night after being destroyed by the Orlando Magic in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, "The King" acted more like a spoiled prince. LeBron refused to shake hands with any of the Magic players and then decided he was too angry to attend the post game press conference which is required by the NBA. Instead, Mo Williams was forced to the podium to congratulate the Magic and explain why the best team in the league would not be going to the NBA Finals (by the way, I have gotten on Mo Williams a lot in this series but he has my respect for doing a stand up job in that press conference).

Comments 1-50 (of 69):
  • I think that Lebron thought that train was unstoppable until reality set in,and then he did not know how to react. Give him a little time from somebody who knows.
  • The kid can play but he is a punk. And everyone always wants to call Kobe a baby. But I think Kobe is the man, and Lebron should take some class lessons from the younger Dwight Howard that is a classy player.
  • YEAH THAT WAS REAL WEAK FOR BRON TO HIT THE LOCKER ROOM WITHOUT SHOWING SPORTSMANSHIP TO THE MAGIC. I HEARD OF BEING A SORE LOSER BUT, THE NBA IS A PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE AND OLD BRON BRON SHOULD DO A BETTER JOB BY LEADING BY EXAMPLE. FROM WHAT I SEEN BRON JUST HIT THE SHOWERS BUT ON HIS FAVORITE JAY Z ALBUM AND HIT THE BUS WITHOUT TALKING TO REPORTERS.. THATS CRAZY....
  • absolutely!
  • he is no kobe either,
  • yo,but the man's makin' big $$$!man, if i could b 1 of the best players n the world & pull n 10s of millions per yr, i couldn't care less 'bout a chanpionship.hell,if he never obtains 1, he won't b the 1st great player 2 go championshipless,or will he b the last--there's hundreds 'em!
  • He's just angry about the loss. I wouldn't take this too far. He had a great series. The second best series out of any player in a conference finals series. I'd give the man some credit.
  • u,me,& every1 else understands king James' dissapointment.but every1 else,me & u also recognize that n the name of professionalism,u don't just jet off the court after losing,or winning,4 that mattter.i mean, hey, look @ it this way,it's just a game.& no matter what players on the opposite side r more worthy of respect than some game is.honestly,i would love 2 c bron offer up an apology.go cavs!
  • this coming from the person who talked the most pro cavs smack all series.
  • sanbot, don't think 4 1 minute that i'm switchin' up,'case i'm not, sweetheart;i'm just big on good sportsmanship! & if the cavs do as well next yr,i duly swear 2 root even louder!
  • Where is my $23?
  • sorry bron but u had this coming
  • I wouldve been kinda mad too,but i would have said congrats to Dwiight and the others..
  • Man...MOST times after series ending games, both teams walk off the court without responding to one another or congratulating one another. I bet you are the most cool, calm, level-headed person ever when you are in an emotional situation, aren't you? JR Smith can't make hand gestures...LeBron can't be too angry to talk to the media...I bet if the Lakers win, you are going to criticize Dwight Howard if he doesn't sing a love song to Kobe.
  • i wouldn't have such a problem with it if he wasn't the face of the league. if their best player is doing this they might as well scrap the "NBA Cares" campaign and replace it with "NBA Cares (about themselves)." they could do commercials of NBA stars voting themselves into the All-star game, or chewing out their housekeepers, maybe even a montage of making it rain or poppin bottles. And now that you mention it, i would love to see dwight sing to kobe, especially if dwight was imitating stan van while doing it.
  • WOW...so off on many levels...First off, he didnt ask to be "the face of the league." Second, the NBA Cares program doesn't have anything to do with sportsmanship. It is the NBA's athletes taking time to attend charitable events, spend time with children as mentors, and do things to help their community.
  • you're splitting hairs here. while on the surface it may be sayin "hey look at how charitable our players are" the whole point of the campaign is "our players are good people who aren't too self absorbed to help some people in need." and i don't think their best player acting like a 10 year old really bolsters that message. no body can argue that the NBA had an image problem and the NBA cares commercials are a direct response to that.
and to be quite honest, i'm sick of people saying "he didn't ask to be the face of the league." just because he didn't submit a formal request to represent all things NBA doesn't mean that he shouldn't be responsible for how his actions affect the success of the league.
  • Dog he really is asking to be the face of the league. When you say you want to be the NBA's 1st billionaire and sign on to be the leader in the NBA's marketing campaign, then you are asking to be the face of the league.
  • Although it was not the loss that ended the series, wehn Denver whooped all over the Lakers, Kobe got in front of the cameras and said (to the effect of) - We got our @$$es beat.
Perhaps what we saw is yet another example of the maturity missing from some of the younger players in the NBA. If the lakers win, there is NO way D Howard is not going to man-up & congratulate the Lakers, esp not after what lebron did! Come on, he was chosen as the leagues MVP not just for his work on the court, but the character he brings to the game off the court.

This will pass - I mean, the finals do begin on Thrus. ;-)
  • f2ck dwight howard.
  • "Thumbsdown" was saying this about Lebron a couple years ago:

    http://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/LeBron_James_Needs_to_Grow_Up/33951

Everything about him is phony. He has God-given skills, yeah, but he's been babied and coddled ever since he was in grammar school. He hasn't had to make a decision for himself his entire life, and as a result, he's the mental maturity of a damn toddler.
  • what? other than him not shaking hands when has he acted out?
  • people need to stop whining because he didn't shake their hands...There no rule that says he needs to...He usually does it but this time he didn't, big deal...It's not like a player has never done this before..After they got swept by the Spurs and LeBron and Tim Duncan embraced I don't remember everyone praising him then..So don't bash him when he doesn't
  • but there is a rule that says you must attend the press conference!
  • So you are mad he missed a press conference were the majority of the questions will be about him going to New York because his teammates let him down?...I want to know why nobody made a big deal about him not shaking hands with any of the Celtics last year when they lost?..Seems ppl are just gunning for LeBron right now..If you weren't gonna praise him for shaking anyone's hands then don't bash him because he didn't
  • na, not mad at all. Im not shocked at all that he did this, he should have been the main rep for his team in that press conference like he is in every other case. He left Mo and Mike Brown hanging (eventhough they did the same to him on the court). And in life you generally don't get praise for doing things that are expected of you (shaking hands after a game/speaking at the press conference) but you get backlash when you don't! example: Im not going to congratulate anybody for not going to jail, but I am gonna fry you if you do go.
  • this is the day after for me.....a day after a team I love losses in a big game, they got smashed, and it hurts. I can't imagine how he must feel.....I feel like this hand shaking thing is a stretch, most of the time, LeBron does and says the right things. This could be the first time I have not seen him do the right thing.
  • I cant front lebron is a great player but bottomline he is and was too cocky this post season. it seemed to be all good when the cavs were winning but a true humble superstar takes the time and gives the team that beat them congrats, especially a fellow teammate from the us olympic team.. If he is a true leader for the cavs then he should have lead the way..well he has a long off season to work on some more pre game photo routines....

  • maybe lebron shoulda been working on realistic jumpshots instead of all those "look at me" half court shots in shoot around. he coulda been watching game tape on how to defend his opponents instead of choreographing celebrations. sometimes i couldn't tell if i was watching dancing with the stars or a basketball game. to me it just screams "lack of focus." i hope he can figure it out and get a ring.
  • How do you know what LeBron was doing when he wasn't on the camera. Do you think he spent 23 hours a day on television. Besides, the guy played his a$$ off. His teammates on the other hand weren't ready to step their game up when it mattered.
  • What team doesn't put on a show like this before a game on their home court? I didn't see this as cocky, but the team enjoying being around one another.
  • The majority of the teams don't do things like that before the game...its called being focused and respecting your opponent. Those antics scream arrogant team with no focus and a terrible coach for allowing it!
  • he shouldnt have congratulated them when dwight howard shoots a 3 before the the buzzer when they already won... if it was anybody else they would get fined but because everyone is on his jock he wont
  • are u saying dwight should get fined for shooting the ball before the buzzer sounded????
  • All yall talikng crazy cause the boy JAMES was mad that he had to do everything by his self you would fill the same eway just like Mcnabb been doing and bill blichick a cheater in my book so who cares bout him. JAMES going be just like Jordan watch and see. Jordan went throught the same road JAmes is so just sit back and watch. ANd KOBE is the most softest player in the league he wine more then a b****
  • James "had to do everything by himself" b/c the expectation (self imposed or bestowed upon him by his TEAM) has nothing to do with his lack of sportsmanship. Lebron & the boys lost the series b/c they did not play as a team. To take nothing away from the Hawks or the Pistons, but the CAvs were not challenged during the playoffs until they met up with thet Magic. The result would have been the same if the Celtics had beat the magic. When playing against a strong TEAM, leron cannot handle it & shame on the coaching staff for making the majority of the plays PASS IT TO THE KING. Now he will be the of the Cry Babies (yeah, I'm a WIZARDS fan - we are SO tired of his damn tears!).
Shame on LeBron. Shame on the Cavs. I bet this is a lesson learned... But then again....
  • huh?a team can't win 66 games unchallenged;that's not possible!
  • In the playoffs the cavs realy were not challenged. During the season, yes, there were some games when they had to work harder than others - (three come to mind - the Lakers & the WIZARDS!!!!) that is the nature of the game. But as for the playoffs, yeah, not challenged. At least they can say then went down swinging...

In any event, James leaving the arena HIS team to explain their early vacation amounts to nothing more than a hissy fit, which of course is not good sportsmanship. period. yes, you can be upset - who the hell would not be?????? But you CANNOT walk off & not expect to held accountable for that behavior...
  • If Boston would have won the series wit the magic they would got sweep by the CAVS. Plus the CAVS beat they self you really got to blame it on Mike Brown. Why would you have Iggy playin against this guys he to slow and not play palviec or whatever he alot quicker and he got size. They could of beat the Magic too but Mike Brown keep playing the slow players against these Fast Magic players. I will go for the MAgic cause lord knows if Kobe win i will be mad as s***.
  • I love the pic....I can only hope it comes true.
  • I am so Loving this Picture Right here as a Knicks Fan if this was to come True it would be the Greatest thing to happen to the New York Knicks!!! 2010 Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  • That aint goin happen tell you that right now so stop dreaming knicks fans. Why would he go to the worst team in the NBA anyway. LMAO. I cant wait till he sign that new contract wit Cleveland and all of new york goes crazy.LMAO
  • he's good as gone. He said he wants to be the nba's first billionaire which will be impossible in Cleveland but close to obtainable in new york
  • nice find, someone's got nice photoshop skillz.
  • “It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them,” he said. “I’m a winner. It’s not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you’re not going to congratulate them. That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a competitor. That’s what I do. It doesn’t make sense for me to go over and shake somebody’s hand.”

    -LeBron James, 5/31/2009
  • I am so happy that this ended in a display of lack of maturity. I am so not ready for this to be "Lebrons league" yet. I think that most would have a hard time disputing that he is the most physicaly gifted athlete in the league, and I for one am happy to see that it STILL takes more than than a lot of commericals and shoe deals to be a champion. Seeing him strugle, scratch, claw, and fight to make it to the promised land of the NBA only helps me like him more. How he deals with it helps me relate with him. Dealing with the loss the way he did helps me realize that this is not the time for the "Rule of King James" yet.
  • Nike should get their money back.

LeBron James Gives Season's Last Interview With Yankees Hat On, Video

LeBron left the elimination game without talking to the press. He landed in Cleveland Sunday, and stepped out of the airport to talk to the press, so this is technically his final interview of the season. His wardrobe contained a Yankees hat. Draw your own conclusions.

Sorry, I Don’t Want My Pro Player To Be A Gracious Loser!

There are many in the sports media and quite a few NBA fans who are quite upset at Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star and Association MVP LeBron James at the way he handled himself after losing to the Orlando Magic Saturday. Instead of attending the post-game press conference, LBJ plopped a set of headphones on his head and after checking out okay for a pre-boarding security scan, James...

The Killer Crossover

There's a lot of questions surrounding LeBron James' career right now. Will he win in Cleveland this year? If he wins, will it convince him to stay in the fabled summer of '10? Can the Cavaliers' much-feared "one-on-five" offense actually work if LeBron is at the helm? But one thing people have never questioned is King James' talent. In the Global Sports Fraternity's...

The NBA: Not as Corrupt as We Thought

In the midst of a relatively slow period in the sports calendar (especially for those of us who only casually follow the NBA and NHL) comes one major story: the NBA playoffs aren’t fixed. With the Tim Donaghy scandal and Bill Simmons’ endless theories on the state of the NBA’s referees and the influence of the all-powerful David Stern, most fans have come to accept a “fixed”...

The Afternoon Dump: Riots At ESPN, Stupid QB Makes No Sense, Lebron’s Crossover, Eephus Begins, Whos Your Daddy, 5 Typical Football Players, And Leah Dizon Is Multi-talented

Hard to believe that this babe, Heidi, turned 36. Happy Birthday. Lakers will lose to Orlando, calling it now. Kobe pretty much carries that team and as we can see even the king(Lebron James) can’t do it. Lets go Magic. Wonder what is going to happen in the hockey world, who is it going to be? Penguins [...]

King James is a Sore Loser

The NBA doesn't get that Kobe-LeBron Finals they wanted. That happens. I wouldn't say that the Cavaliers choked away a golden opportunity for their first championship since I firmly believe the Orlando Magic were just better. If you watched these two battle during the regular season, you would have felt the same way too.The most shocking moment on Saturday night was...

One Puppet Down, One Left Standing

After a powerhouse best NBA record season, the biggest shock of the 2009 playoffs was the elimination of Lebron James' Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs swept through their first two rounds of playoff action against Detroit and Atlanta without losing a game.  Then they ran into a gritty, live and die by the 3 point shot Orlando Magic. The Cavs came within a second of being swept by the...

King James Says He's Not a Sore Loser

Here is LeBron James statement on his actions following Cleveland's Game 6 loss to Orlando: "It's hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them," he said. "I'm a winner. It's not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm a competitor. That's what...

How many more muppet commercials do they have?

Nike’s dream scenario didn’t pan out as the Cleveland Cavaliers were eliminated over the weekend by the Orlando Magic. But they still got a chance to release one last muppet commercial featuring Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. When do we get the Kobe and Hedo Turkoglu one?

Witnesses to Weakness

It's true we were all witnesses. We were witnesses to greatness all year long. We were also witnesses to weakness on Saturday night.Lebron said he was too competitive and upset after the loss to shake hands with the opposition. Well that is kind of a poor excuse, but in the heat of the moment it is understandable and forgivable. What I don't like however, is that he also used the...

What Do The Cavs Do Now?

This is not how it was supposed to go. The Cavs were destined to make the Finals and face the Lakers, with LeBron turning in a fantastic Game 7 performance in front of his loyal fans at the Q to bring the city of Cleveland its first championship since 1964. With a title already under his belt, and a few more on the horizon, he would happily re-up for another four or five seasons...

Do The Cavaliers Have The “Right Stuff”? We Will Soon Find Out!

Most likely you are well aware of Murphy’s Law: What ever can go wrong will go wrong! However you may not be aware of Cleveland Sports Law: No matter how promising a Cleveland Pro Sports team is they will break your heart at the end of the season! Once again sports fans of Northeast Ohio are going through that familiar let down with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Why Lebron James Acted The Way He Did

Everybody's talking about Lebron James and his quick exit in Game 6 on Saturday night. After losing the game, James bolted for the locker room never shaking a hand, skipped the post-game news conference and headed home. After catching up to him more than a day later, all Lebron could muster up for his show of disrespect was: "I’m a winner. It’s not being a poor sport or anything...

Simply Put, Lebron Needs a Wingman

If the Cavaliers loss in the Eastern Conference finals proved one thing its that Lebron James just like everybody else needs a wingman. Despite being the best player on the planet, he needs a teammate that can pick up some of the slack and take some of the burden off of his shoulders. The entire Cavaliers roster from Mo Williams to Delonte West to Anderson Varejao and beyond proved...
