TEAMS: Buffalo Bills
PLAYERS: Marshawn Lynch

Do you honestly think Marshawn Lynch is incapable of constructing a proper sentence for his blog?! Maybe after a few more semesters of college you will learn that the most crucial objective in persuasive writing is to appeal to your target audience. I highly doubt Marshawn intended to target self righteous idiots like jzpop when he wrote his first blog entry. Marshawn is makin millions by being himself. In fact, Nike has even taken notice of Lynch's influence by placing him front and center of its rookie advertisement campaign. Gold grill and all -- Marshawn continues to communicate his point both on and off the field. Incidentally, Lynch has branded himself by being himself. Initially I was only going to rip into the substance of your article but after a cursory glance it's obvious your grammar is FAR from perfect. For example in your article you wrote (I CAPITALIZED some my suggestions): For starters, I hate improper grammar. Actually, hate is a strong word. I do not hate improper grammar. It does, however, bother me. And I understand that most of the time it is done subconsciously and we don't really notice. That is fine. It happens. FRAGMENT SENTENCE(S) However, I do hate when people use improper grammar intentionally. It demeans them as human beings, making them nothing more than the cats and dogs we have in our homes, because if you cannot communicate properly, and you are a fully functioning human being, than you are nothing more than a house pet. RUN ON SENTENCE -- TRY USING A SEMICOLON. Now, I do not expect this post to be perfect because I know it won't be. I will type too fast and skip a letter or jumble words. I will then go back and fix them so just accept it and enjoy the read. The sad part is you INTENTIONALLY tried to write w/ proper grammar and even proofread the damn thing. Please stop hatin -- you have a 3 semesters of college NOT a PhD. "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt" ?" Mark Twain

  • Wasn't me you were asking, but yes, I for one absolutely think Marshawn Lynch can't compose a sentence, on his blog or anywhere else.

You, sir, are no Mark Twain. Seriously, don't rip on someone's grammar unless yours is spot perfect. Besides, the real problem is that now all of us, as writers, are competing with people who are inherently more interesting to the Yarbarker audience: athletes. So quit crying about their grammar. It's not going to make people more interested in reading about how you watched the game at Shoney's. They were playing in it. Get over it. And cool it with the all caps. We hear you. From Marshawn maybe, but not from ezwriter.
Stay up Marshawn, and say what you feel.

My bad. I hadn't even read the original firestorm before I posted the comment. But yeah. I think we are at least partly in agreement. Marshawn doesn't need to be getting flamed on for his grammar. Neither, really to any of the rest of us. And I say that after erroneously chastising ezwriter instead of the author for doing the same thing I'm doing. Okay then. Let's talk about sports some more.

I agree w/ dturman, I was bit out of line for putting jzp on blast. But referring to an athlete who uses street slang as a house pet is definitely out of line. that dude needed to get called out

Absolutely. You were right for putting him on blast. I just want everyone to get off the grammar tip. It's not like these cats are writing bylines for the New York Times. You know, if Baron or Marshawn were writing something for our blog, I would feel compelled to tighten it up (as an editor). But this is cool because it's a relatively loose environment where we get to chop it up with them. Pissing them off by clowning their grammar is not going to make them want to post more. And judging by the hypemeter readouts, that's what we want.
