As Philly sports fans, this is pretty much the pinnacle. Our Phillies are the reigning World Champions of Baseball and they now have the opportunity to defend that title against the New York Yankees. Sure, this Yankees team may have a slight advantage on paper and the luxury of playing an extra game on their home turf, but having watched this Phillies team over the past two seasons we know that Charlie's boys have what it takes to beat a powerhouse like this Yankees squad. Now they just have to go out and do it.
Despite holding the title of WFC, the Phillies are still being viewed as heavy underdogs by most "experts." This Phillies team, much like their fans, seems to thrive when people overlook what they're capable of doing.
As Charlie said before the game, "We play for today." They can build off of their experiences but the past is behind them and the opportunity to do something truly historic stands in front of them today. To become truly legendary they'll have to beat the likes of Jeter, A-Rod, Sabathia, Teixeira, and Rivera. It won't be easy but that's what'll make it so much damn fun when we're boozing up and down Broad Street some sunny afternoon next week.
