Former World No. 6 Gilles Simon finished strongly to reach his first ATP World Tour semi-final in 11 months, defeating Belgium's Xavier Malisse 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 on Friday at the Open de Moselle in Metz.
The Frenchman saved seven of the eight break points he faced and won 84 per cent of points behind his first serve to wrap up victory in just under two hours. After the loss of the second set, Simon raced through the decider, breaking serve twice and allowing Malisse just five points.
