I shouldn’t even care about the NBA, because they so ruthlessly took away the Supersonics. But, hey, I like sports. And honestly the 2011 NBA Playoffs could not have gone better from a Sonics fan’s perspective. My rooting interests were:
1. Please dear god somebody beat OKC!
2. Seriously somebody beat those assholes!
48. And if you could be so kind have somebody other than the Heat, Celtics, or Lakers win.
I got all 48 things!
One bonus of not having a team is that you get to float around and pick different teams to follow. As the world’s biggest JR Smith fan, I have enjoyed following the Nuggets recently. The Brandon Jennings and Jon Brockman combination make the Buckos fun to keep tabs on. The Knickos with Senator Stoudemire and Prince Anthony are an equal delight. (Note: If I can add an “o” in your team name to make it sound like a cereal? That’s happening.)
So in honor of the league delivering the exact results I wanted, I will write a rambling and incoherent draft diary that is mostly an excuse to post youtube videos that caught my eye during recent months.
Also of interest, Adrian Wojnarowski (who is so good he didn’t have to change his name to become a prominent sportswriter) reported today that Dallas and Chicago have interest in Isaiah Thomas in the late first round. By the time you read this, that will have happened or not.
Sidebar on sportswriter’s names. Steve Kelley. Joe Posnanski. J.A. Adande. Michael Wilbon. Woody Paige. Jason Whitlock. Bill Simmons. Jerry Brewer. W.C. Heinz. Bomani Jones. Tim Cowlishaw. Dan LeBatard. Tony Kornheiser. Sunny Wu. Clay Travis. Bob Condotta. Ted Miller. John McGrath. Not a hyphen in the group, and all of those names pop. I could never make it in that field.
First video! I heard this song on GU’s radio station, which always plays weird hip hop. This is always a pleasure. Behold East Oakland’s Kreayshawn (I had no idea what this name was about, but my wife pointed out it was like “creation”. I was impressed by her deduction, but she dismissed it as she’s a kindergarten teacher and reads phonetic spelling all the time. I remain impressed.)
Kreayshawn gave an excellent fashion review of Britney, Gaga, Beyonce and other stars on nymag. She had nothing but nice things to say about all! As I get older I like nice people more. Kreayshawn also had this fantastic quote about Britney Spears:
Man, Britney Spears — you can’t hate on anything she does. Well for me, especially, just because I’ve been instilled with this Britney Spears thing since I was a little girl. Even when she shaves her head and does all this crazy **** — she’s still not wrong, dammit. She’s still not wrong…
Alright so the draft is about to start. We care about #1, Derrick Williams, Kanter, Kemba, Klay, Jimmer, Isaiah, and MBA. If two Huskies get drafted it’s a successful night. Hell if one gets drafted it’s good. If Isaiah goes first round? Excellent. If Justin Holiday somehow gets drafted? Over the top excellent.
I think I’ll post this now and edit it as we go along. BEGIN THE READING OF NAMES!
