Welcome to the 2013 college football preseason! It officially starts today. Whatever keeps me from having to write about baseball; as that actually subtracts page views from my website- for whatever reason. Sadly, the 2013 college football 77 in 77 does not include the Illinois Fighting Illini. We’ll rank and preview one team a day for the next 77 days, ending with #1 Alabama Crimson Tide on the Thursday before the 2013 college football season begins. This is the first year I’ve done the 77 in 77 in which my alma mater, the Illini, are not included. And you can understand why. The hiring of Tim Beckman degraded the Illini from the Big Ten to the second division of the MAC. And that’s a shame because Illinois produced the greatest college football player in history: Red Grange. Which is why we do 77 in 77. That was his jersey number. So you would think that Illinois should have a truly powerful football program. Not so much. Here’s your 2013 college football 77 in 77 77. Colorado 76. Kansas 75. Ohio 74. Wake Forest 73.
