Fold or Flop?
Entering into the 2013 off-season Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis possessed two world-class goaltenders in Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo with the former firmly cemented in the starter`s position.
Today the Canucks employ only one NHL-calibre starting goaltender, and the organization isn`t even certain that he will be ready to return to the Canucks...
Down The Middle
Another year, another question mark for the Vancouver Canucks at third line centre.
The patchwork system of Jordan Schroeder, Derek Roy and even Mason Raymond at times is now down to Schroeder, newly signed Brad Richardson and a handful of promising prospects.
It wouldn’t be a problem if a fourth line centre spot was all that was up for grabs, but the Canucks knew...
Could two become none?
There was much shock and uncertainty in Vancouver last Sunday when Mike Gillis flipped Cory Schneider at the draft to the hometown Devils for the eighth overall pick. Shock for the culmination of the two-headed goaltending cloud that has hung over the Canucks since Schneider joined the Manitoba Moose way back in 2007. The logical conclusion, then, was that...

How about Zack Kassian? Could he contribute much less than he did last season? Imagine what playing half or a full season with the Sedin twins might do to his confidence, level of commitment and enjoyment...
Pond Hockey in Van City
After rumours leaked a few months ago, the NHL officially announced today that the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators would hook up in an “outdoor” game at BC Place on March 2.
It’s an exciting announcement but it also raises a few questions ahead of the big game.
1. Vancouver and…Ottawa?
I get this is a heritage classic, heavy on the heritage...
Oh, the Disillusionment When the Canucks season came to a screeching halt at the hands of a four game sweep, courtesy of the San Jose Sharks, you just had to know changes were coming. Be it the coaching, the players themselves or the always present mess in net, this team was just flat out awful. Top to bottom, complacency plagued this squad to the bitter end. This, the latest in...
“Outdoor” game a cash grab?
I like pizza a lot.
But I learned my lesson about six years ago after a cheese coma inducing encounter at a Pizza Hut buffet one fateful afternoon.
I gradually regained my vision and ability to form rational thoughts but I discovered that sometimes there truly can be too much of a good thing.
It’s a simple fact that the NHL has failed to recognize...
