Last year’s champs were denied a repeat by the juggernaut known as Chicago. The Kings established that last season’s title was no fluke and they have the team put together to stay in the hunt for years to come. Let’s take a look back at the 2013 Kings. Team Name: Los Angeles Kings Record: 27-16-5, 2nd in Pacific, Lost 4-1 to Chicago in Western Conference Finals Player of the Season: Jeff Carter scored 26 goals and looked to regain the form of years gone by. Carter finished fourth in the league in goals only behind Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos and John Tavares. That’s some pretty damn good company to be with. Breakout of the Season: Defenseman Slava Voynov posted a career-best 25 points in his second season with the Kings and added a couple more power play points than last season. He kept going in the playoffs with a 6-7–13 line in 18 playoff games with four game-winning goals and a+9 rating. For his efforts the Kings wisely locked him up with a 6-year, $25 million deal.
