The braintrust of the NHL should be busy this morning coming up with ways to capitalize on the widespread appeal of hockey during the Vancouver Olympic Games. Hockey has long struggled to pull in the casual fan and even many diehards left the sport after the work stoppage last decade. But with the enormous TV ratings the USA vs Canada OT thriller provided, there are fans thinking about hockey this morning that could easily be turned into full-time NHL supporters if the league acts quickly. Here are the strategies I would implement starting today to capitalize on the wave of hockey enthusiasm: 1.) Crosby, Miller, Parise and the other NHL stars that participated in the Olympics should be part of an NHL media blitz that lasts for the next 4 weeks. Get these guys out there talking about their Olympic experience and also further introduce them via sports, business, entertainment and news media vehicles.
