Game Seventy-Four - Cubs 0 Pirates 3 WP - Ross Ohlendorf (7-6) LP - Ted Lilly (7-6) Save - Matt Capps (18) An extremely bad month for the Chicago Cubs came to a fitting end on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. The Cubs were shutout for the eighth time this season and the third time on the current 10-game road trip (second time in two games) that concludes Wednesday with the finale against the Bucs. A day after putting together a solid win against Zach Duke, the Cubs reverted to the bad habits that led to an 11-14 record in June. Ted Lilly didn't pitch that badly and for the third time was on the wrong end of a shutout. Half of Lilly's six losses this season have come in games when the Cubs did not score a single run. Lilly put together a quality start but his wild pitch and error led to the Pirates first run. Lilly gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits in seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. Freddy Sanchez continued killing Cubs...

Also, there's a game tonight

The 24-man Pittsburgh Pirate roster takes the field tonight against the Chicago Cubs. Ross Ohlendorf goes against Ted Lilly as the Pirates try to keep going in what's gotta be a pretty rough stretch for the guys on the field. I certainly like the Morgan trade and what it does for the organization, but seeing your friends traded can't ever be easy. Anyways, if you're looking for Morgan...

Who Should Be the Cubs 2009 All-Star Game Representative?

Let me preface this entire article with a big old, who cares? With the Cubs playing the way they are, the mercy All-Star that the Cubs will get is of little importance, but I needed an article idea for the day and it's a fun discussion. And dagnabit, baseball is suppose to be fun. So assuming the lemmings that are voting don't get Alfonso Soriano in there ...

Cubs won't win World Series until they clean house

This is not about a billy goat, a Bartman, or some new Century Club Curse hanging over the Chicago Cubs. Yes, the Cubs haven't won a World Series in over 100 years now, but it's no longer about a lack of talent or a propensity to choke. Everybody wants to bury the Mets this week for their underachieving ways, but at least their struggles can be largely related to their lineup that...

Nyjer who?

A very solid win by the Pirates helped ease the loss of Nyjer Morgan as they were able to shut out Chicago on Tuesday night. Ross Ohlendorf was brilliant, making the Cubbies look foolish all night. 7 innings, 4 hits, no runs, no walks, 8 K’s. Cubs fans will blame their own hitters’ incompetence instead of [...]

Gameday #77 vs. Cubs

Cubs (36-37) at Pirates (35-41) 7:05–PNC Park, Pittsburgh TV: FSN Pittsburgh, CSN [Here is the MLB Gameday] ———————————– Yep, there’s a game tonight. It’s the 100th anniversary of Forbes Field–to the day, so bleacher seats are only 4 bucks tonight and I’m sure there will be a ceremony of some sort. Ross Ohlendorf looked a lot better in his last outing [...]

Pirates beat Cubs last night at PNC Park

Right-hander Ross Ohlendorf tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out a career-high eight as the Pirates nipped the Cubs. The victory gives the Pirates their first winning June (14-13) since 1996.

Game 77: Pirates 3 Cubs 0

Tonight, Ross Ohlendorf went out and made it clear why people like me who say he'll probably end up in the bullpen in the long run might be entirely full of crap. On most nights, it seems like he lives and dies by his fastball/sinker/whatever and his off-speed pitches are secondary pitches that he has very little faith in to get hitters out. Tonight, he mixed in his breaking pitch...

Source: Pirates' Grabow, Capps on Block

by Ed PriceFiled under: Pirates, MLB Inside ScoopAfter making two trades Tuesday, the Pirates may not be finished. Pittsburgh has publicly said that it would listen to offers on players who are not under team control for 2010 -- shortstop Jack Wilson, second baseman Freddy Sanchez, first baseman Adam LaRoche and lefty reliever John Grabow. And according to an official of an AL team...

Sanchez, Ohlendorf spark 3-0, Pirates triumph

Freddy Sanchez, the Pirates' No. 2 hitter with Nyjer Morgan traded earlier in the afternoon to Washington, went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs while Ross Ohlendorf tossed seven shut-out innings and struck out a career-high eight tonight as the Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs, 3-0, before 17,054 inside PNC Park.

Ohlendorf overcomes emotion from trades, Cubs

Trade Nate McLouth? Give the ball to Ross Ohlendorf, and watch the host Pirates win. Trade Nyjer Morgan, Sean Burnett and Eric Hinske?

Pirates Open To More Deals?

Ed Price at Fanhouse.com reports that the Pirates might be open to dealing more of their players. He cites "an official of an AL team" as saying that the Bucs have been "considering deals for [John] Grabow and closer Matt Capps." Price writes that the Pirates are not simply attempting to dump salary; they will want power pitching prospects in return. Price cites a "person familiar...

Mets Take the Lead

With two out in the top of the tenth, Matt Capps hits Fernando Tatis. Tatis steals second, and Church singles him in. Can the Mets hold a 9-8 lead?

Sanchez's hustle play leads Pirates past Cubs

Ross Ohlendorf pitched seven innings and Freddy Sanchez got the depleted Pirates going by scoring from second on a ball that bounded only a few feet from home plate during the fourth inning, helping Pittsburgh beat the Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Tuesday night. Sanchez, coming off probably his worst game of the season, went 3 for 3, reached base four times, and drove in two runs as...

Pirates lose to Mets in 10 innings

Ryan Church lined a run-scoring two-out single off Matt Capps in the top of the 10th inning, as the Mets beat the Pirates, 9-8, in a back-and-forth make-up game at PNC Park on Thursday afternoon.
