What was once considered just a thought, looks like it will now become a reality. The new Yankee Stadium is taking a page out of the old one, and deciding to host college football. Which can be a good thing if they are smarter with the field lay out than they are at At&t field in San Francisco. I understand the want and need for college football to try and get some excitment and coverage in the New York media market. But as it sits right now, we have more bowl games in college football than needed. Do we really need another one to add to this endless list?

The game has yet to recieve a name, so for ease I will just refer to it as the New York Bowl. This game is supposed to pit the number 4 team from the Big East agianst the number 7 team in the Big XII. So for the Big XII this means that Baylor will now have a chance at getting a bowl game every season. Just looks like another step towards letting every team play in a bowl game. Right now you have teams who have a losing record earning bowl bids because they need teams to fill bowl slots.

If the Big XII holds true to form, the number 7 team will end up being a team with 3 maybe 4 wins. So I really have to question this and think, do these teams deserve to go to a bowl game? I was raised on the thought that bowl games were meant to reward teams who had great seasons. I don't want to take anything away from any teams that get bowl invitations, but if you go out and get kicked around like a stray dog week after week, do you really need to go to a far off city and get kicked around for 4 more quarters just so you can get a free Xbox or Ipod for getting invited? I don't think so...But then agian I am in the group that wants to see them shorten the list of bowl games, and turn the BCS into a playoff system.

But in the end, we will eventually see teams who win 1 game go to bowl games. Which makes me sick, It is just like giving kids a trophy for just competeing. Taking all the drive to win out of competition. But they never asked my opinion. And I will end up watching the game no matter what, because I am a football junkie.
