Deadspin:
Is this the worst postseason umpiring we've seen since Eric Gregg and Livan Hernandez? We've seen some great baseball this October...and no one's talking about it. That's because we've seen so many egregiously wrong calls that, really, who can talk about anything else? Already in tonight's game we've seen one of those runners up top get called safe somehow, Nick Swisher erroneously being called safe sliding back into second, and Swisher then getting erroneously nailed for leaving third too early while tagging up. Video evidence only confirms what millions of human eyes saw. What's the deal here? These haven't been bang-bang calls by any means. They're not calls that we'd expect our worst umpires to miss, so it's not a matter of having the wrong guys working the game. Is this like a batter's slump? Has one blown call affected the confidence of the entire postseason staff, and they're trying too hard? And more importantly, when ...

Ex-Met Hernandez No Longer Livanin’ The High Life
2009 has been a year to forget for, former-Met, Livan Hernandez from a personal standpoint.
I had reported back in August that Hernandez was being sued over damage done to a rental car.
Unfortunately, now the pitcher’s troubles have hit closer to home…literally.

Did Nick Swisher Steal Fan's T-Shirt Idea?
As the Yankees head to California to wrap up a World Series bid, controversy brews back home. Did Nick Swisher take a fan’s original T-shirt idea and trademark it for himself, in order to make some extra cash? Because everyone knows $5.3 million in ‘09, $6.75 million in ‘10, $9 million in ‘11, and a [...]
Tim McClelland Believes In His Heart That Nick Swisher Didn't Tag Up
Anyone else getting tired of umpires holding postgame press conferences to breakdown their poor decision making processes? It's bad enough we have to listen Joe Girardi explain his terrible bullpen moves, but this is getting out of hand. Tim McClelland—who has been a Major League Umpire for 26 years—admitted after last night's ALCS game the he botched two calls...

Bald Vinny, Nick Swisher, Another Corporate Violation
Hardcore Yankees fans don’t need me to tell them about Bald Vinny Milano. He is one of the members of the “Bleacher Creatures” at Yankee Stadium. Vinny was actually on the show earlier this year as we discussed the culture of the bleachers and had him as a guest.
Today Vinny has made it to the [...]
Swisher can't join hit parade as slump drags on
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Perhaps if the Angels started a right-hander in last night's ALCS Game 4, Yankees manager Joe Girardi would have given more thought to leaving the ice-cold Nick Swisher out of the lineup.
However, the Angels went with lefty Scott...

by Jeff FletcherFiled under: American League Championship SeriesANAHEIM, Calif. -- Umpire Tim McClelland admitted missing two calls during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday night, the latest incident in what has been a bad October for umpires.

If They Only Had A Brain
Like I always do, I've been listening to MLB on XM all day today. There's a lot of talk about the Phillies returning to the World Series. The general consensus seems to be that the Yankees will dispatch the Angels and face the Phillies in the Fall Classic so most of the talk, from both the hosts and callers, has to do with them facing the Yankees and how they matchup. There...
Hate to say this: More replay
Everyone here knows that I am not a big proponent of instant replay in baseball -- heck, I don't really like it that much in the NFL, either -- but if you're going to have umpiring crews that do not work in concert and are not willing to confer and overrule obvious bad calls, then Bud Selig's going to have to do what he did with the weather delays. Change the rules on...
CC's Gem Sets up Yanks One Win Away From Series
ON THE MOUND:CC Sabathia's second gem of the series was enough to do away with any momentum the Angels gained yesterday. The Yankees pounded the Angels 10-1 tonight in Anaheim to pull to within one game of the pennant. CC was once again masterful as he dominated the Angels over eight innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits, walked two, and struck out five. He had everything...
Umpires have another rough night in playoffs
Sporting News staff reports
Major league umpires added to their collection of postseason slipups tonight, missing three calls in a two-inning span of Game 4 of the ALCS.
Two of the calls went in the New York Yankees' favor, the other in the Los Angeles Angels' favor.
One of the culprits was crew chief Tim McClelland, who generally is considered one of...
WHAT BASEBALL NEEDS IS A COMMISSIONER? WHAT? WHO? BUD SELIG? IS THAT RIGHT?
Steriods ? Who cares. Pete Rose? ****, build him a shrine in Cooperstown already and bring Shoeless Joe Jackson with him too. The Black Sox ? Please what a bunch of amateurs. None of these so called scandals and jackals of baseball can touch the umpiring we’ve seen this post season as the biggest scandal in baseball history. If Congress wants to investigate baseball forget who’s...
