One of the things that bothers me the most of late is the cries from everyone to bring Mike Holmgren back. Now, don't get me wrong, Holmgren was great for our team. He was possibly the best coach we've ever had (him and Knox). He was not, however, a good GM.
Mike Holmgren is a great man. He is a great teacher. He wants to give everyone a second chance, he wants to take a look at the person and see deeper. He wants to heal the world. Those are admirable traits. They are. However, they are not ideal traits for a GM. The majority of his draft picks did not work out for the team long term. Most likely, the majority of most GM's draft picks don't work out for their team. Holmgren did a good job of bringing in people he trusted -- Matt Hasselbeck, most blatantly -- to play ball for him.
