If Buddy Lazier can win the Indianapolis 500 with a broken back, then he can certainly win this race. It'll be a much different one than he's used to, though.
Lazier, who was last seen failing to make the field for this year's "500" with Hemelgarn-Johnson Motorsports, will look to grab one of four open town council seats in his home of Vail, Colorado.
According to an article from Lauren Glendenning of the Glenwood Springs (Colo.) Post Independent, the election is set to go off on Nov. 3 and that the 1996 Indy champ is running on a "straightforward" message of giving back to the community that has raised him and is helping him raise his two children.
This is pretty intriguing. To me, local politics is a tough gig for a person since you have to answer to folks who know you and your family personally. Botch it up and you could easily become a social pariah.
But from all accounts, Lazier is a determined figure by nature. And if he brings the same never-say-attitude he utilizes in a race car to the council, I have no doubt he can get the job done if he is elected.
He may make a couple of mistakes along the way, but I believe he wouldn't make the same one twice. I also believe he would do good work for his community.
