Right now, things look great for our favorite baseball team. Everything is clicking right now and they're winning baseball games. The starting pitching in particular has looked good since they started the second half. However, their is danger on the horizon for the staff. The Yankees vaunted pitching depth from the start of the year has been diffused by injuries, ineffectiveness, and moves to the bullpen. Of the names of possibly available pitchers, the most interesting (not named Lee or Halladay) is Paul Maholm.Maholm has always been a highly touted player. The Pirates picked the college lefty with the eighth overall player in 2003 draft. He did not disappoint Pittsburgh either. He put up good numbers throughout the minors. The Pirates promoted him up level by level fairly aggressively and, other than a twelve inning hiccup in A ball, he rose to each challeng...

Robby Cano Is Capable of Much Much More
Those of you that don't get to watch the Yankees much this season probably look at Robinson Cano's 2009 statline of .310 14 HR and an OPS of .833 and think wow that's a nice bounce back year for Cano. Those of us who watch Cano on a daily basis this season realize that while he is playing far superior to his 2008 campaign, he is not close to realizing his potential. Take a look...
Checking Out the Pitching Market
Its pretty clear that Yanks definitely have to be scoping out the market for starting pitchers in the days leading up to the trade deadline. Sergio Mitre comes with no guarentees and Joba Chamberlain is getting close to his innings limit. Not to mention the ever present threat of injury. You can't really trust Wang to come back and give you a late season surge either. It seems like...
Joba Rules
There's been so much angst about Joba Chamberlain this season (he's lost his fastball! Inconsistent! Mediocre! Attitude! He can't go deep! Phil is the new Joba!) it's easy to forget how young he is, and what a blue chip he remains. I've been stunned by how quickly the Yankee faithful...
