Another Cubs Blog:
PLAYERS:
Rich Harden,
Jeff Samardzija,
Milton Bradley,
Casey McGehee,
Mike Burns
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers
Well, that sucked. Rich Harden was once again terrible, lasting just 2 inning and allowing 7 ER on 8 hits, while walking 1 and K’ing 1. He also allowed another HR, bringing his total on the year to 14 HR allowed in just 69 IP. David Patton and Jeff Samardzija 2 ER apiece in their 5 innings of relief work. The lone bright spot for the Cubs was that rarest of sights, a Milton Bradley HR from the left side of the plate. It appears as if his work in the cage with Joshua is paying off. Bradley paced the offense with 1 hit (the HR, 2 walks, and a 2 RBI. Fontenot had his second straight two-hit day. Everyone else sucked. Dave Kaplan’s latest stalkee mancrush bromance, former Cub farmhand Casey McGehee, led the Brewer offense with a HR and 5 RBI.
Something’s not right with Harden. he’s not wild, but he’s making mistakes in the strike zone, and he’s getting killed for it. Maybe he’s tipping, maybe he’s hurt, I don’t know, but something is not right.
Mike Burns takes on Destroyer of Worlds T-d L-lly tomorrow. Here’s hoping for a series win. Now get off the damn blog and spend the holiday with your family, you deadbeats.
In closing, some parting words from the Father of the 4th, John Adams:
The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph [sic] in that Days Transaction, even altho [sic] We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.
Happy 4th, everyone.

Cubs Take 3 of 4 From Brewers; Get Healthy Tomorrow
I didn’t see much of the game today so I won’t talk much about it. The Cubs won and took 3 of the 4 games over the weekend against the Brewers. This was a huge series for the Cubs and they stepped up. They’ve played great baseball at home all season. The offense has come to life, but they also haven’t faced much good pitching of late. Still, they’ve scored more...
Derrek Lee Grand Slam: the Original Soundtrack Recording
bodman pointed out in the game wrap how Len Kasper somehow kills the excitement on his home run calls, and noted how even a replay of Pat Hughes’ call gave him goosebumps. Pat has a way of doing that. I was listening to the game on Gameday Audio and on that call, Pat transported me instantly back into the 1980s with a call that was totally inspired by Harry Caray. I raved...
