Both the Cubs and Mets are looking for consistency. The Cubs can't seem to find a rhythm; they'll win a couple in a row but then lose a couple in a row. Meanwhile, the Mets cannot win a series; they are now 0-8-2 in their last 10 series and have a notorious habit of winning the getaway game of a series after dropping the first two. While of course the Mets are long gone from the race; the Cubs are still hanging on by a thread. According to the ESPN Playoff Percentage; the Cubs have approximately a 2% chance since they are 6 back of the Wild Card. This weekend also marks the homecoming of two players. One who will certainly be roundly cheered (David Wright) and the other certainly roundly booed (Aaron Heilman). Pitching Matchups for the Series:Friday- Carlos Zambrano (7-6 3.91 ERA) vs. Bobby Parnell (3-7 5.81 ERA)-Zambrano's last start (L 1-4 to NYM): 3.1 IP, 4R (3ER), 11H, 0BB, 3KCareer vs. NYM: 4-2 with 4.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and .250BAA in 9 appearances (8 starts)R...

There Goes The Streak! Mets Fall To Cubs 5-3

For the first three innings of the game on a beautiful day for baseball, Nelson Figueroa appeared to be on his way to another stellar performance against the Cubs at Citi Field on Saturday.  He was continuing his amazing strikeout run that he began last week when he fanned a career-high 10 batters at Wrigley [...]

College Football Celebration

It's a g-damn celebration, beeotches. Seriously, I really don't get those folks who love football but just "aren't into" college ball. Huh? I think it's unacceptable. Honestly, think less of these people. Didn't go to a big-time school? Not an excuse. No local team? Don't care. I attended an Ivy League institution and the closest legit (and I use...

Left Z'em Loaded - Cubs 2 Mets 6

Game One Hundred Thirty-Three - Cubs 2 Mets 6 WP - Brian Stokes (2-4, BS 2) LP - Kevin Gregg (5-6) Save - Francisco Rodriguez (29) The Chicago Cubs have begun mailing in what is left of the season. So much for playing for pride, this team just looks like they want the year over as quickly as possible. A day after being shutout by Carlos Torres, the Cubs allowed Bobby Parnell...

A REASON TO STILL WATCH METS GAMES

Here is why I still watch Mets games this season. Because of last nights top of the seventh inning. In a year one miserable game after another, there comes along Bobby Parnell, bases loaded, no outs and the manger keeping himself in the dugout. After giving up a double and a walk, Parnell found himself in a world of trouble. Sam Fuld fouled off two bunt attempts trying to move the...

Should the New York Mets "Fab Three" Stay or Should They Go?

This season the Mets have seen many new additions to their big league roster in order to compensate for their injured stars. Some of these roles have been occupied by career minor leaguers, while others have been filled by seasoned veterans, who have shuttled between teams throughout their career. In particular the starting pitching staff has been decimated by injuries. Three of...

Doubleshot -- Game Recap: Mets 6, Cubs Blew ... er, 2. GameCast: September 5th at New York

Due to time constraints, laziness, and because I think it looks kind of cool, I'm going to combine yesterday's ugly recap with today's scag-like GameCast. So.  Your team is struggling for offense and you have one guy who's been hitting the ball decently.  Do you: A) stack the lineup to give him as many opportunities as possible to hit with runners on?B...

Mets Win First Battle of Mediocrity Against Cubs; Thank God for Grabow!

It's as though the minute Carlos Zambrano was out of the game the Mets came to life.Only Super Sully could solve Big Z last night...Other than a solo homer by Scott Sullivan to give them a 1-0 lead they held until Angel Pagan let a pop up drop in front of him for a double (which was actually an out considering the ump blew the call on Francouer's bullet to 2nd base that should...

Cubs 101 - Pt. 58 - The Return of the Mad Dog

Rob:For a franchise convinced that Joe McCarthy couldn't manage; traded Billy Herman for spare parts; sent away Lou Brock for dead arms; swapped Bill Madlock for someone with half his talent and twice his salary probably because of his deep dark tan; gave up on Raffy Palmiero because he a) didn't have enough power or b) wasn't very selective on which teammate's wives...
