Howdy from a soon to be loud and proud Nation's capital...Canada Day in a few short hours. Going to be a great day for Dany Heatley as he gets $4 million dollars. At least it's not out of our fine owners pockets.
Also in a few hours is the running of the bulls beginning of free agency in the NHL. For the Senators it means figuring out how to best spend $6.7 mil. in cap room (approx. number after the Heatley deal) to improve a club that missed the playoffs last season.
The Eastern Conference has improved already with Montreal getting Scott Gomez from NYR, Philly bulking up with Pronger and New Jersey retaining Johnny Oduya. Carilona retained a few players early and NYR is poised to make a move to improve after cutting around $5 mil. of space. Even the Islanders should be improved after the draft they had. Toronto has cap space and is rumored to be going after physical players, which means 8 games of violence for the Sens who do not have an enforcer. Buffalo will be better just by h...

Sources: Heatley refuses to waive his no trade clause.
From TSN.ca:
The Ottawa Senators are on the hook for a $4 million signing bonus to forward Dany Heatley.
Like he did no Tuesday, the disgruntled forward declined to waive his no-movement clause to facilitate a trade to the Edmonton Oilers.

We finally get some resolution.
Heatley’s refusal to go to Edmonton has really caused the Oilers [...]
Utterly Bewildered
Howdy from a hungover Ottawa. Good show last night from the Hill. My favourite part about Canada Day is seeing so many different peoples and cultures celebrating one nation.
Not totally shocked Heatley and Neil are still Sens today. Shocked on how it happened.
Obviously Bryan Murray and Co. were put in a difficult situation when Heatley decided to cut and run. Obviously however it...
Heatly to the Oilers?
TSN is reporting this deal if Heatley will waive his no-trade clause. If this is true the Edmonton Oilers will have gotten a lot better or at least added some fire power they didn't have last year. The Senators give up an unhappy star in Heatley for three decent role players. Sources say Dany Heatley has been asked to waive his no-trade clause to go to Edmonton in exchange for...

NHL free agency: Dany Heatley declines to waive no-trade clause for Edmonton Oilers before midnight deadline
Dany Heatley is now $4-million richer but he's still with the Ottawa Senators.
Heatley vetoes again
Looks like Dany Heatley is getting his $4 million from Ottawa, and Edmonton is getting stuck again.
Heatley again declined the request to waive his no-trade clause, even after personal visits from Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini of the Oilers’ front office. So he remains in Ottawa, $4 million richer, and on a team on which [...]
Kelley: The growing salary gap, more notes
The widening salary gap, Dany Heatley's mess and more notes.
We're Not the Jet Set
This is Glen Sather. If you're an Oiler fan, this is a day to turn back the clock and cheer like hell for "Slats." Dany Heatley's delay on giving the go-ahead on a trade that sees Edmonton loading up on a 1line L gives Sather and the Rangers a window of opportunity. As I understand it, Heatley would prefer to play in New York City. I think it's a good move for...
In Defense of Dany Heatley (sort of)
One thing I was struck by yesterday as speculation unfolded on various signings, is that hockey fans and journalists are often very willing to believe the worst things about hockey players, and usually without any substantial confirmation that those things are true.
The Dany Heatley drama appears to be a grand example of this. Ask nearly any fan today what he thinks of...
Ottawa’s Roster on the Cusp of Free Agency
By Peter Levi
Let me preface my comments by saying I think there’s no chance that Dany Heatley will suit up for the Ottawa Senators this fall. One way or another Heatley will be gone from the nation’s capital. As such, he is not included in the following discussion.
Forwards (Cap hit: 23.008)
Jason Spezza (7.0) – Spezza [...]
Reports: Ottawa Senators agree to send disgruntled Dany Heatley to Edmonton Oilers
Multiple outlets reported Tuesday night that the Ottawa Senators have agreed to send Dany Heatley to Edmonton for Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Ladislav Smid.
News and Views: Ducks draft weekend's big winners
The draft has come and gone, and the Senators are still stuck with Dany Heatley. Wes Goldstein looks at the Ottawa mess and says the Ducks and Lightning are the weekend's big winners.
Source: Heatley to SJ for a package involving Marleau/Michalek
Howdy from a now sunny again Ottawa.
Rumoured from a source saying Dany Heatley is off to play with Big Joe in San Jose for a package including Patrick Marleau and/or Milan Michalek. Wasn't I just talking about these guys earlier today?
Again, rumour only as of now. Nothing else out of the Sens camp...given the need to deal Dany and our cap situation we looked like a '...
Evening Links: Let the re-signing begin, San Jose needs a makeover
Some news and notes:
With less than 48 hours until the NHL free agency period begins, the first big question is how many of the marquee free agents will even get to the open market.
Dany Heatley could be traded before July 1, but it’s going to take a significant offer from the New York Rangers or [...]
Heatley to EDM for Penner, Cogliano and Smid...maybe
Howdy from Ottawa. Huge 11th hour news for the Ottawa Senators organization. The deal on the table is below, yet Dany Heatley has not waived his no-movement clause to go to Edmonton. Heatley's agent J.P Barry believe's the $4 mil. bonus deadline was 11:59pm Wednesday while the Sens believe it was 11:59pm Tuesday. If Heatley doesn't waive his clause to go to EDM, the New...
