First off, Congratulations to the New York Yankees. The Yankees were clearly the better team when both of the AL's best wrapped up the ALCS on Sunday night with the Yankees winning 5-2.That being said, the Angels didn't exhibited their A game against the New York Yankees in the ALCS, which is unfortunate. The Angels played pooly on defense which was a strength coming into the series. They ended up losing Game 2 on a throwing error and what could have come of Game 6 without Kendrick's and Kazmir's errors in the bottom of the 8th?The Angels also had success against southpaws, but were beaten by CC Sabathia twice and Andy Pettitte in Game 6.The Angels road record was 48-33 during the regular season but they couldn't win one game in New York.Be that as it may and while it's never fun to get beat in the playoffs, there's too much good to talk about when discussing the Angels 2009 highlights. The way they played their hearts out after the Nick Adenhart tragedy fo...

Yankees-Phillies Pitching Comparisons: Part One

This is the fourth time this year I'm making one of these pitching comparison posts. The first was way back in March over at the Chuck Knoblog and things have changed big-time since then. Its a little longer than I originally anticipated and I've decided to split it up into two posts. One for the starters and one for the bullpen and my final prediction for the Series. I&...

(Something Profound About 1999 Goes Here)

When we talk of the Yankees' dynasty at the end of last century, three teams consistently enter our mind:The 1996 squad, a combination of pure grit and utter youth, of the waning days of the likes of Cecil Fielder, Doc Gooden and Jimmy Key, and of the coming out of the likes of Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera (Jorge Posada would debut later). The 1998 team, sheer and...

Mr. Burnett, It's Time to Pitch the Game of Your Life

Trailing 1-0 to the defending champs creates the first real October adversity the 2009 Yankees have faced and a must win situation in tonight's game 2. A.J. Burnett must go out and show the Yankees that throwing that $82.5 million contract his way last offseason was the right decision. CC Sabathia expressed the same feelings last night following the loss, saying “we need [A...

I’d like to see a three man rotation in the World Series

I’d like to see C.C. Sabathia pitch games one, four and seven, A.J. Burnett pitch two and six and Andy Pettitte pitch three and five. I would like to have a rain out for one of the first two games so you can give me the two lefties at home against the Phillies powerful line up [...]
