Okay, there is a lot of talk about Adam Wainwrong's post-game comment that the white towels may have distracted Roy Holliday, causing him to botch what would have been the game-ending, win-clinching catch of a James Loney fly ball. Here's Wainwright's quote: "He lost the ball in the 50,000 white towels shaking in front of his face," starting pitcher and would-be hero Adam Wainwright said. "It doesn't seem really fair that an opposing team should be allowed to shake white towels when there's a white baseball flying through the air. Dodger blue towels — how about that?" Let's dispel this argument, once and for all. 1. As Jon "Zapruder" Weisman pointed out over on Dodger Thoughts, towels were not being waved during the play, but rather, started waving after Holliday's groin shot gave us new life. I mean, let's get serious, what rational Dodger fan would be waving a towel during what would appear to be the last play of t...

Waving White Fabric: A True Distraction or Just St. Louis Throwing in the Towel

One detail I neglected to mention in my Dodgers v. Cardinals Game 2 wrap-up was a post game comment by Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. The Cy Young contender’s 8-inning, 3-hit gem left  the Cards with a 2-1 lead heading into the 9th. A legendary Matt Holliday nutshot and questionable Ryan Franklin pitching squandered Wainwright’s stellar outing and caused the Cardinals...

Two Cy Young candidates, no wins for Cards

Adam Wainwright pitched eight sharp innings against the Dodgers on Thursday, only to watch the Cardinals lose 3-2 after an error by left fielder Matt Holliday led to Los Angeles’ two-run rally with two outs.

Cardinals Eliminated

The NLC’s only representation in the post season was just swept tonight. I had heard some say that the Cards were the team to beat in the NL and others say that the Cards were confident going in to the series. Behind Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright, I guess that’s understandable, but watching them in [...]

Adam Wainwright hopes to start the playoffs on a good note

Former closer looks to make a statement against the Dodgers. Former closer looks to make a statement against the Dodgers.

I don’t believe what I just saw!

When James Loney was a kid growing up in Houston he would stand in his back yard holding an old aluminum bat and pretend he was up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth of a playoff game. He could hear the crowd roaring in the background, he’d throw a rock into the air, [...]

Dodgers stun Cardinals with 2 in 9th

The Dodgers rally for two runs in the ninth to ruin Adam Wainwright's gem and stun the Cardinals for a 2-0 lead in the NLDS.

Be Victorious, Vicente: Cards Tap Carpenter, Wainwright For Games 4, 5

However lucky or artful the Dodgers have been to win in starts against Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright — two Cy Young contenders — they had better hope they can seal the deal today against Joel Pinero, because those same two starters will reprise their roles if a game 4 and/or 5 will be necessitated by a Cardinals win today. Carpenter would be starting on three days...

You Say Ethier…

Adam Wainwright retires the first 11 batters before Andre Ethier launches a shot over the centerfield wall to tie the game at one. Twenty two of his 31 home runs came at Dodger Stadium this year. In his career, 49 of 75 game at home. Manny Ramirez grounds out to end the inning.

Game #2: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

The Dodgers will need to find a way to keep the bats going against the Cardinals and that might be easier said than done against Adam Wainwright. He has started 34 games this season and he was 19-8 with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He also started 2 games against the [...]
