Manager Joe Girardi, who wore jersey No. 27 as a symbol of the team's nine-year quest for this championship, said he would try to change his uniform number to 28.
"I think I'll make a number change," Girardi said on WFAN.
He said he would discuss it with GM Brian Cashman and with Shelly Duncan, who has worn the number most recently.
"I think I will," Girardi said. "I have to talk to Shelly Duncan see if he'll allow me to wear it."
Hopefully he changes his number A LOT.
