Well, 2008 is now upon us.  Let's look ahead to what could make 2008 a truly exceptional year for the sport of boxing.

Bernard Hopkins vs. Joe Calzaghe:  These two technicians may finally fight each other this year.  Both fighters are coming off great wins.  Hopkins defeated Winky Wright by clear decision in his last fight, while Calzaghe outpointed Mikkel Kessler to solidify his hold on the division.  There have been rumblings about this fight for years, but it finally appears like it is really going to happen.

Oscar de la Hoya's annual Cinco de Mayo extravaganza: Yep, he'll fight again this year.  There's been talk about a showdown with Ricky Hatton or a rematch with Floyd Mayweather.  The talk about Hatton was before his loss to Mayweather, and I don't think the time is yet right for a rematch with Mayweather.  The latest rumor is that Miguel Cotto is in the mix.  Now that's a fight I'd pay to see.

Klitschko cleans out the division: Wladimir looks set to destroy just about anyone  he meets in the heavyweight division.  He's set to fight Sultan Ibragimov on Feb. 23.  After that, hopefully a rematch with Samuel Peter will follow with the winner set to take on Ruslan Chagaev for a truly undisputed and unified heavyweight champion of the world.  Help us Obiwan Klitschko, you're our only hope.

Mayweather solidifies greatness:  Floyd Mayweather claims to be the greatest fighter ever.  His recent win over Ricky Hatton helped him move ever closer to actually being considered just that, but he'll need to do more to make it a reality.  The welterweight division is full of great fights for Floyd.  Figthers include Shane Mosely, Miguel Cotto, Kermit Cintron, Oscar de la Hoya and Paul Williams.  Let's see Mayweather go 5-0 versus that crowd before we proclaim him king of anything.

All in all, it looks like another great year for boxing.  What are some fights you'd want to see?
