It's being reported that the Mets have in fact declined J.J. Putz's option, essentially buying out the reliever for 1M. I would love to keep him and actually see that 1-2 punch of Putz to K-Rod in action, but at over 9M it isn't smart business. Surprisingly Putz maybe willing to return on a low base salary incentives. Is there really a player out there that feels a sense of debt to a team after they traded seven players for him and he barely pitched all year, or did he enjoy NY that much, probably neither if he is willing to return it's probably to rebuild his reputation for next off-season...Putz's agent, Craig Landis , said Putz understood the likely decision and hasn't ruled out returning to the Mets with a cheaper, incentive-laden deal once free agency begins Nov. 20. source NY Post
