by Matt SnyderFiled under: Dodgers, Mariners, AL West, NL West, MLB RumorsAs Eric Milton eyes his return to the Dodgers' starting rotation, general manager Ned Colletti has been out watching some of their minor league affiliates recently. It's no secret the Dodgers would like to upgrade starting pitching before the trade deadline, and reportedly Colletti is checking out which minor leaguers in the Dodgers' system can be used in a trade to acquire left-hander Jarrod Washburn from Seattle. The Mariners are still hanging around in the AL West, though, so it's not exactly a sure thing they'd be willing to part with Washburn. He does make quite the hefty salary, but his contract is up at the conclusion of this season, so moving him wouldn't really save the Mariners much money.Jarrod Washburn Tied to Dodgers in Trade Rumors originally appeared on Fanhouse MLB Blog on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 16:20:00 EDT . Ken Gurnick reports that Russell Martin thinks it was a timing problem.ANAHEIM -- After holding a Thursday news conference to announce his involvement with the ONE DROP Foundation, while en route to the clubhouse, Russell Martin walked past injured infielder Doug Mientkiewicz, who was practicing his swing, which included the leg lift he uses to keep his body weight back."And that...

Can the Mariners Continue to Contend?

This is a question that Mariners fans have been asking themselves and eachother all season. So far, there really hasn’t been a clearcut answer, but it’s starting to look more and more like a yes. As of now, the Seattle Mariners are sitting at 35-34, 2.5 games behind Texas and 2 behind LA. On top of [...]

The Mariners: Postseason Possibilities?

With their series sweep over the Diamondbacks, the Mariners are now only 2.5 games behind the division leading Rangers. Suddenly, this division has gone from an impossible goal to a realistic possibility. Baseball Prospectus's PECOTA has the Mariners odds of making the playoffs at around 18.8%. That doesn't make us front runners, but it's certainly a far cry from last...

Wagner Mateo

I noted last week in a post about Guillermo Pimentel that the Seattle Mariners’ international budget has been increased two or three fold this year, and while they may be a front runner for Pimentel they have their eyes on Wagner Mateo as well, according to a Jorge Arangure (ESPN) tweet. Like Pimentel, Mateo is one [...]

Why are we rewarding this?

SportsCenter just informed me that ESPN will be cutting into the College World Series to show each at-bat for Manny Ramirez as he rehabs with the Albuquerque Isotopes of the AAA minor leagues. You heard that right. They're cutting into the championship series of the highest level of baseball players who arguably may be playing solely for the love of the game and the pursuit of...

Mariners win on error, back above .500

Tony Clark dropped a routine throw to first base, allowing Ronny Cedeno to score the winning run for the Seattle Mariners with two outs in the ninth inning of a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Mariners "lucky'' to be contending, or not?

Here we sit, on June 22, with the Mariners now 2 1/2 games behind the first-place Texas Rangers and only two games back of the Los Angeles Angels. Providing once again, an example of why calling it a season and trading away your best players in early June is not always a good idea. Think about it. The only thing separating the Mariners from first place at the moment is a blown 8...
