Nets owner Bruce Ratner is reportedly looking into the possibility of selling the team.
Citing several sources, the New York Post is reporting that Ratner is looking to unload most of his share of the Nets as the franchise continues to lose money. The Nets had the largest drop in gate receipts in the NBA last year and have been forced to take financial measures such as laying off 25 percent of their staff, forcing non-basketball employees to accept furloughs and reducing pay for all the team's assistant coaches.
The sources say Ratner, who bought the team in 2004, still wants to maintain at least a piece of the franchise. Any sale could be complicated by the Nets' prospective move to Brooklyn. But those close to Ratner insist he is not looking to sell the team but is merely seeking investors, and is trying to keep the move on track. The team will no longer wear any uniforms that say "New Jersey" on them.
