Another Cubs Blog:
Despite Ricketts’ platitiudes and expertly spun PR in today’s press conference (see for fans bought hook line and sinker), he means business On two blog posts by one of the two beat writers who does his job in this town, Bruce Levine, Ricketts revealed his plans for the business for the next few years. The highlights:
-The Cubs will lobby to have Wrigley Field host the 2014 ASG for the 100th anniversary of its opening, following $200-300 million dollars worth of renovations and the construction of the Triangle building
-An electronic scoreboard!!!!!!! It will be like the team joined the 20th century.
-The Cubs are also considering naming rights to add an additional revenue stream
-The bathrooms will no longer reek of 95-year old urine. One thing I remember from reading Veeck’s autobiography was that whenever he acquired a new team in all of his wheeling and dealing, the first thing he always did was paint and actually *clean* the stadium when he moved in. It does make a difference.
