Senior Marshall Massengale is in his first season playing high school football. It looks like he has been on the field for his whole life. His talent manifests itself in his play at both wide receiver and corner back for fourth ranked Jackson High School. We got a chance to talk to Marshall, check out our interview with him after the jump!

How is it being at Jackson now? I know you were at O'Dea for 3 years, what's been good and bad about being at a new school?

Jackson has been great, the team is 6-0 and I am loving every moment of it. As far as school goes I went to middle school with a lot of the kids but it was hard being the new kid and took awhile to get used to. Another tough thing was missing all of my friends from O’Dea but I still keep in touch with a lot of those guys.

What has been the main reason for the team's success this season?

Well most people know about Andy Gay and Riley Carr they are two really good players and our team leaders but the main reason for our success is the sense of team camaraderie. We play for each other and always pick each other up. The team has a lot of seniors and experience and we play hard and fast. Our Offense has the ability to put point up in a hurry and our Defense plays very fast and can force turnovers.

Besides Carr, and Gay, who are some players on the team that deserve some extra props and kudos...guys that might be flying under-the-radar?

We have a lot of talented guys on offense Wr. Kyle Olsen TE Trevor Hegeberg OT AJ Copage WR/RB Taylor Mead and on Defense DE Jake White, DE Paul Sparks, LB Anthony Mortera CB Coal Plumber and Taylor Mead again At SS Most these guys are seniors and all Wesco guys.

What is the biggest individual improvement you've made from last season to this season?

Well, this is my first season of playing High school Football. I only played Basketball at O’Dea so it has been a completely new experience. But the biggest thing I had to do is try to change my mentality to a physical one. Make the transition from basketball to Football. So this summer I hit the weights hard and gained about 15 pounds and worked on my explosiveness and it paid off so far.

What made you decide to start playing football?

Looking Back I wish I would have played at O’Dea but my focus was on basketball. After making the switch Andy kind of convinced me, I played Pop Warner with him so the chemistry was still there. I also wanted to play Football because It used to be my favorite sport and I wanted to get back to having fun and playing sports and now I remember why I loved it so much

Do you plan on playing basketball for Jackson?

Yea I played Spring and Summer Ball with the team and it was cool to play with the guys I played with when I was younger, again, and plan on playing this season

What's it like playing with Brett Kingma?

Its nice as Point guard because all you have to do is throw it to him and its an assist.

Do you plan on trying to play football or basketball in college?

Right now I’m leaning towards Football because its Football season and that’s where my focus is but I am just looking for an opportunity to show case my abilities either on the court or the field in college.

What colleges are you looking at right now? Any showing any interest in you at this point?

I have gotten some interest from Columbia, Rice and Carnegie Mellon for Football and I am very interested in all of them. I am working on my getting my game films sent out and I am hoping to generate some more interest.

What's your outlook for the rest of the season?

As a team our goal is to win State. I believe we have the talent to do it.
