Last Friday, Nathan Hale (3-3) upset Rainier Beach (4-2) in a 21-12 shocker. One player that was instrumental in the win was Hale's fullback, Nick Castoriano. Castoriano ran for 76 yards and a touchdown in the win. We got a chance to talk to Nick, check our conversation with him after the jump!
What are your thoughts on your season so far? Are you surprised? Is this what you expected?
This season has been tough but we have overcome what people have thought of my team. I was surprised that we beat a lot of the teams that we have like Rainier Beach. I never really thought of us going this far. It is like a dream.
What specific challenges have you guys overcome?
Just going against the odds against teams with better records than us and ending up coming out on top.
Did you have any goals going into the season?
Well our team's goal going into the season was to make it to the playoffs and make it as number one in the Metro Sound division league. My individual goal was to be first string fullback.
Did you do anything this offseason to make sure you would be the first string fullback? Was there strong competition to get the starting spot?
Well during the off season I was lifting weights and doing wrestling. There was strong competition; three other fullbacks who were all four year seniors that had more experience of playing fullback than me.
Are there any NFL/College players that you model your game after?
I kind of model my game like a young Jim Brown
Do you have any relation to Nathan Hale lineman Jason Castoriano?
Yes, he is my older brother.
How is it playing with your older brother on the team?
It is really cool, because we both can talk about what we were doing and what went wrong.
What year is he in? What's your outlook for the rest of the season?
He is a senior. My outlook for the rest of the season is that we get number two in metros. And who knows from there? Anything could happen.
Do you have any interest in playing football in college?
Yes I do.
Any colleges in mind? Or is too early?
I've had my mind set on going to the University of Florida and to become a gator. I kind of want to go to the University of Washington.
Well, good luck the rest of the season, and thanks for giving us a chance to talk to you!
No problem Kevin. Thanks.
