All around the blogosphere, there are giddy Celtics fans revelling in the team's triumph over the Cavs on opening night in Cleveland. While it's a nice monkey to get off the Celtics' backs (the C's hadn't won there in 5 years), and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them thump the Cavs, it's not as if it were Game 7 of the ECF. So, before making our June plans for a parade, let's put this win into perspective. Do you honestly think that the Cavs are at all worried about the loss? Or how about this - if the Celtics had lost at home to the Cavs, do you think the C's would be at all worried? The answers are no and no. Yet fans, bloggers, and even some large media outlets are over-analyzing the Cavs' loss and the Celtics' win. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill here, but let's not go overboard. The Cavs will be better the next time they face each other, let alone in April. On a similar subject, I've seen complaints about the minutes already. After one - ONE - game. Ray played 42 minutes. P2 played 38. So what? It was the opener. It was a game that Doc WANTED to win. It was, contrary to what I said above, a statement game. The Celtics came out and beat their biggest nemesis and most feared Eastern Conference opponent (sorry, Orlando). So what if Ray played 42 minutes? There will be plenty of games where he plays 32. Same for Pierce. It should also be noted that KG only played 33 minutes. For what it's worth, I think the minutes were handed out pretty effectively last night. And, in doing so, the Celtics came away with a win.I know it's been a long off-season. The win was nice, and should serve as a reminder to the league that the Celtics are going to be tough to beat. But, they were also 27-2 at one point last year, and we all know how that turned out. Here's to hoping the Celtics don't have a hangover tonight, and don't get caught in a 'Cat trap. Charlotte is athletic and can give the C's fits, but also lack size in the frontcourt to match up effective with Perk, KG, and 'Sheed. Should be a win, but that's why they play the games.
