This game is big for the Sounders as they are 3 points away from clinching their first ever playoffs in the MLS. The Sounders in their first season have come out strong surprising everyone with their success in their inaugural season. They came out in the first 3 games winning each one and even won the US Open Cup against DC United. No team has had this kind of success in their inaugural season since the Chicago Fire in 1997, but back then the league was down 10 teams than what it has now. If the Sounders make the playoffs and win the championship it could be argued that the Sounders have had the greatest success in an inaugural season.
To make the playoffs the Sounders have to get through the Kansas City Wizards. The last time the Sounders played the Wizards the Wizards became the first team ever to score on the Wizards. This accomplishment was not as impressive as it sounds since it happened in the second half after the Sounders were down one big guy, Kasey Keller for his red card. This game also resulted in the Sounders first loss ever. Ever since the Wizards have not been too impressive with a record of 8-12-8.
The Sounders have recently been very impressive on the road. They went and beat the Crew on the road, DC United twice on the road and LA on the road too. This road success could very much help the Sounders out with where they could end up (Right now they are projected to play LA on the road). The Sounders will have a full arsenal today to try and get this W. The Weakness in the Wizards game is their defense. The Sounders should be able to take full advantage of that, and I see Fredy Montero and Steve Zakuani tearing up their defense.
The Sounders need this win for this win and they know it. I see Schmid having this team ready for this game against a not so great team, and I believe the Sounders will beat the Wizards 2-0.
Go Sounders!!
