With three games to go, the Seattle Sounders find themselves in the midst of an extremely tight playoff race. 13 of the 15 MLS teams still have a chance of making the playoffs. Seattle is currently in 5th place in the Western Standings.

In the MLS, the two top teams of each of the two conferences automatically make the playoffs. The rest of the spots are filled by four wild card teams, made up of the next four teams with the most points, regardless of conference. Right now, the MLS playoff picture looks like this:

The Sounders are currently tied for the second wild card spot. According to PlayoffStatus.com, the Sounders have about a 70% probability that they will make the playoffs. They are guaranteed a spot if they go 3-0 in their final games. They are also extremely close to a guaranteed spot if they win two and tie one of these games.

In Seattle’s final three games, they play away at Columbus, away at Kansas City, and home against Dallas. Columbus is probably the best team in the league, so the Sounders will be fortunate to get a win or even a tie there. However, I believe they can beat Kansas City and Dallas and make it into the playoffs.
