Kody's Sports Korner:
On Saturday there is going to be a game between two top 25 teams that will probably decide which team will get the coveted BCS bid that other conferences outside the Big ones don’t get. But the real kicker here is most of the country will miss this game.
Because it is going to be shown on the versus network. Thanks to Direct TV and some cable providers, this game will be unavailable to some estimation of half the country. It is sad that ESPN can send out its college game day crew, but can’t find anyway to pick the game up on one of its networks.
While in most years this game wouldn’t garnish much attention outside of the students and alumni of each school. But this year, you have a battle of two teams who are fighting for a conference championship and the possibility of a BCS birth. So unless you are lucky enough to get versus, or have a ticket to this game, the rest of us across the country will be checking the score on our cell phones or computers.
As a Texan, and a casual fan of TCU, I am mad that I will not get to watch this game since my cable provider does not have versus available to me on a tier less than the premium tier. This is one game I would love to be able to watch and have called my cable provider and let them know how mad I am about it. This is the 2nd such call, since earlier in the season, I did the same thing about the Texas-Wyoming game in week 2.
But the real villain in this event is ESPN; they are going to have a crew in Provo, Utah and will not carry it on one of their multiple networks. ESPN ought to kick it Self Square in the shorts. If this game proves to be as exciting as billed, could be a huge ratings boost. But instead, they will be showing Florida embarrassing Mississippi State.
