I heard a broadcaster say that the actual phrase "walk-off win" is attributed to Dennis Eckersley. Eckersley called the pitch he threw to Kirk Gibson, which led to that famous homerun, his walk-off pitch. He called it that because, he said, "After I throw it, I walk off the field."There were 15 of those pitches thrown at the new Yankee Stadium during the regular season this year.
