Found January 11, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
If you have ever wanted to know how much time and effort and resources go into the creation of the 90-second video that serves as a high-decibel, bright light visual prologue to each and every Cavaliers game, look no further. Jordan Zirm, a New Yorker by the way of Cleveland, has published an extremely well-written piece on the nuances and decisions that went into Machine Gun Kelly being married with NBA Jam for the Wine and Gold’s pre-game gem. With the Cavaliers home opener set for Oct. 30, the team’s front office contacted Think Media Studios in early October. The Cavaliers relayed to [Keith] Potoczak and [Ryan] Hardy a general outline of things they wanted to see in this season’s video. ”This year, they came to us and they had this ’fire’ idea. They wanted to use more fire. That was really their biggest thing,” Hardy said. ”So they just let us throw around some ideas, and a couple people on their staff had three or four ideas as well. They wanted to do more than one opener. Not all the ideas got thrown out. A lot of them stayed around because of the possibility that they could be used for other openers. We had about two days to really develop something.” ”[Hardy] and I sat down and we started throwing around some ideas. Instantly we were like, maybe there won’t be a theme, but maybe let’s just do a music video. We’ll try [hip-hop artist and Cleveland native] Machine Gun Kelly. So that was our main idea that we wanted to pitch to them,” Potoczak said. When we got there, they went first; and literally the first thing they pitched was possibly doing something with Machine Gun Kelly. [Owner] Dan Gilbert was one of the head frontrunners about using Machine Gun Kelly.” The idea was born. The guys would model this season’s intro as a music video starring a Cleveland artist, while adding fire as a special effect. With the blueprint in place, it was time to create the visuals. The entire article is worth a read for Cavalier fans and the visually curious alike. As expected, the window of time to film every player on the Cavaliers roster is infinitesimal. The admission of what portions are done via green screen, the balance of player air time regardless of popularity, and the discussion of how Machine Gun Kelly is to work with are all worth the time. The Cavaliers’ in-game video crew has won league awards in the past. The work described here shows exactly why they have hardware to show for their work. Cavaliers major in damage control in win over Hawks

Coming off perhaps their worst performance of the season in Chicago, and with the news of Andy Varejao’s surgery hitting yesterday it was time for the Cavaliers to do some damage control. It started with ticket giveaways. I know three people on twitter that got an email or phone call and received free tickets to last night’s game. Myself included. In my section, ticket representatives...

Cavs' Varejao undergoes surgery

Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao had surgery to repair a split leg muscle, an injury that could sideline him two more months. Varejao had the operation on Thursday at The Cleveland Clinic. The team said he is resting comfortably and will be kept overnight. Varejao, the NBA's leading rebounder, has been sidelined since getting hurt against Toronto on Dec. 18. His injury was...

Varejao's injury changes everything

The Cleveland Cavaliers must be kicking themselves a little bit for not trading Anderson Varejao when they had the chance. Varejao was the hottest commodity on the market only a few weeks ago when he was hitting 15 and 15 almost every night. Now a knee injury that the team originally thought would keep him out just a couple of days, looks to be much more severe. Varejao is going...

On day of bad news, Cavs go wild

CLEVELAND -- Well, how about that? On the same day the Cavs found out Anderson Varejao will be lost for another six to eight weeks with a knee injury (and surgery), they come out and play like a bunch of wild things. They played with energy, they played with focus, they played with a purpose. If you didnt know any better, youd think they've been doing this a while. If you...

Silver lining on the Varejao injury, the rebuild moves forward

It’s hard not to feel some pain for Anderson Varejao after hearing the news that his knee contusion was in fact a torn muscle in his leg. Memories of Andy winning the game with a buzzer beating 3-pointer against Atlanta, and giving Ray Allen the business during a national televised game against the Celtics are two of my favorite moments I’ve enjoyed at the Q. I’ve really never...

Kyrie Irving Taking Charge in Cleveland

For a season that has otherwise stunk with just a 9-28 record, at least Cavaliers fans can rest assured, knowing that they have a new face to their franchise that should carry them into the future.

NBA Rumor: Cavaliers had discussions with Clippers about Varejao and Jordan

Peter Vecsey tweeted last night that the Cavaliers had discussions with the Los Angeles Clippers about Anderson Varejao- Now, please note what the “report” says- the Cavaliers DISCUSSED a trade with the Clippers. DeAndre Jordan and Varejao were the principals. Even with Bledsoe in the mix, (which the report says nothing about the Clips willingness to include him), there is no...

Box Score: Nuggets 98, Cavaliers 91

You turn the page, but the ink’s soaked through again. The Cavaliers played a truly excellent first half tonight in a tough place to win, but they fell back to earth in the second half and gave the game away late with some defensive lapses and offensive stagnancy as the Nuggets held on 98-91 in the Pepsi Center. Kyrie Irving led the charge with 28 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals...

Cleveland Caveliers C Anderson Varejao will need surgery for a torn leg muscle and will be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks. Irving unstoppable as Cavs dump slumping Hawks

Irving erupted for a game-high 33 points to help the Cavs snap a six-game losing streak at home. He converted 11 of 15 from the field, 5 of 6...

George Karl can see LeBron returning to Cavs

DENVER _ LeBron James opened the door last year on returning to Cleveland. A former Cavaliers coach said he wouldn't be surprised if it happens. "I think LeBron is at that stage where he's challenging himself to motivate him to do something that's maybe more difficult," Denver coach George Karl told FOX Sports Florida before Friday's game against Cleveland...
