INSIDER: Tonight, the Yankees have taken the second game from the Mariners beating them 4-2. The bombers are currently on a 7-game winning streak and are a season best 13 games above .500. ... In the AL East standings, they find themselves just 2.5 games back.

The game lasted just 2 hours and 17 minutes.

The Yankees have not trailed since the 6th inning of last Wednesday when Joe Girardi got ejected.

ON THE MOUND:

Andy Pettitte improved to 8-3 with a great starting performance against the Mariners. Pettitte leads the team-lead in wins. It was also his best start at the new place as he hurled 7 strong innings.
He allowed just two runs on six hits, walked just one, and struck out five. He said after the game that he didn't use his cutter that much, but besides that he pretty much good command of all his pitches. He was working quickly throwing strikes and pitching very effective. All his pitches were on point tonight. On the night he threw 98 pitches, 63 for strikes. He also received the championship belt.

Seattle down 1-0, came right back to tie the game with a run off Pettitte in the fourth. With runners on the corners and one out Wladimir Balentien hit what should have been an inning-ending double play, but Mark Teixeira bobbled the ball and they were only able to get the force. Pettitte then got out of the inning on a pick off without allowing any more damage.

In the 6th, Guttierez thrown out as he jogged into second base thinking it was 3-2 and thought the batter had walked. Instead, Posada threw him out for a caught stealing.

Down 2-1, once again the Mariners matched the Yanks with a run of their own when Pettitte served up a meatball to Ken Griffey Jr. You just had a feeling he'd hit one out this series even though he's not close to what he used to be.

The pen took over, and once again did a terrific job. Alfredo Aceves retired the only batter he faced. Phil Coke then came in and retired the only batters he faced, Ichiro Suzuki and Russell Branyan - both lefties.

Mariano Rivera came in for his 502nd save of his Hall of Fame career, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth. Also, his 20th save this season as well.

THE OFFENSE:

Jarrod Washburn was outdueled by Pettitte as he allowed 4 runs to the Yankees (all long balls). The first coming off the bat of Johnny Damon who got the Yanks on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the third. It was his 15th homer of the season.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Yanks regained the lead with another solo homer, this time off the bat of Melky Cabrera in the fifth. It was his eighth homer of the year, tying his total for the entire 2008 season.

The UMP took about 2 minutes to review the homerun call and it was JUST fair by a couple of inches.

The Mariners came back to re-tie the game at 2-2.

The game would not remain tied for long. Teixeira led off the bottom half of the inning with a single and Alex Rodriguez following with a long two-run homer into monument cave to put the Yankees up for good. A-Rod now has 4 homers and 13 RBI during the Yankees seven-game winning streak.
