There are only two positions left for this series, and it’s been a tight race to see if this offense has improved over the last two years. For all the money invested it has not been a slam dunk improvement. This has been due in part to early season injuries which seemed to short circuit both Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher to varying degrees. Over the last five seasons one could argue that the Indians best hitter had been Shin-Soo Choo. He has always been an on-base machine with above average power who managed to steal some bases. He held the title of best player to never play in an All Star game during that same time as well. This past offseason many thought the Indians would trade eitherAsdrubal Cabrera or Choo. In the end we do not know what trades were out there and what developed, yet it is hard to not see the choice to move Choo as a possible mistake. Asdrubal has been horrible and Choo has had another Choo year. Even if he leaves at the end of the year you get another first ro...

Cubs planning to take a run at Shin-Soo Choo this offseason?

It's safe to say that Shin-Soo Choo has been every bit as good as the Reds hoped he would be when they acquired him in a three-team deal from the Cleveland Indians in December. Choo has provided stability at the leadoff spot, batting .281 with a .416 on-base percentage, to go along with 16 home runs, 28 doubles, 14 stolen bases, and 40 RBI, allthewhile playing respectable...

Cubs Rumors: Chicago to pursue Shin-Soo Choo this winter

The Chicago Cubs have impressive pieces in the majors and in the minor leagues. They have Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Albert Almora, Kris Bryant and others. Do you notice anything similar with all of those guys? Five out of the six of them hit right-handed, while the only left-handed hitter is Anthony Rizzo. In the offseason, the Cubs are going to pursue...

Trend Spotting: On Swisher, Expectations and Acquisitions

While the Michael Bourn signing was exciting, bordering on a shockingly bold move towards contention, it was clear during the offseason that Nick Swisher was the man most pined for.  Even the most emotionally distant type of Indians fan felt as if Christmas came on December 23rd when Swisher signed with the Tribe. Swisher brought a couple of things, most notably being leadership...

Joe Smith (5-1) pitched a scoreless eighth and...

Wild pitches send Diamondbacks to 2-1 loss to Reds

Indians somehow defeat Twins, 3-1

The Indians took #zombiebaseball to a new level Sunday afternoon. The Tribe put on an odoriferous display defensively against the Twins -- and still won. Drew Stubbs hit a go-ahead homer with two outs in the eighth inning as the Indians overcame four errors and a boatload of other mistakes to prevail 3-1 at Progressive Field. Later in the eighth Nick Swisher delivered an RBI single...

Swisher homers, Masterson deals as Indians sweep Angels, 3-1

Nick Swisher and Justin Masterson double-teamed the Angels on Wednesday. Swisher didn't want to see the Indians lose the momentum they created in Tuesday night's 14-inning victory. It would have been easy to do because Wednesday was the last game on a nine-game 10-day trip. Masterson went into Wednesday's start trying to give the bullpen as much of a break as he could...

Reds 2, Diamondbacks 1

Before the game, Dusty Baker didn't know who his closer would be. The Cincinnati Reds manager's eventual choice turned out just right. Sam LeCure overcame two ninth-inning hits and earned the save in the Reds' 2-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Shin-Soo Choo scored the decisive run in the eighth inning on Arizona's fourth wild pitch of the game....

Twins fall to Indians despite error-ridden game

It's days like this that sullied the Twins' 2013 season weeks ago. Neither Minnesota nor Cleveland played anything close to textbook baseball Sunday at Progressive Field. Both had their managers chomping wads of Dubble Bubble more aggressively than normal as they stood inside dugouts full of shaking heads. Afterward, Indians first baseman Nick Swisher shook his, too, still...
