CLEVELAND (AP) -- Tony Abreu's two-out single in the 14th inning gave Kansas City a 7-6 win over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night, snapping the Royals' six-game losing streak. Scott Maine (2-3) walked Mike Moustakas on four pitches to start the inning. Jeff Francoeur and Brayan Pena struck out, but Maine's wild pitch moved Moustakas into scoring position. Abreu blooped a single to center to score the go-ahead run. Both teams used nine pitchers and Cleveland's bullpen pitched 10 scoreless innings before allowing the winning run. Vin Mazzaro (4-3) pitched two scoreless innings and Kelvin Herrera pitched the 14th for his third save. The Indians loaded the bases with nobody out, but didn't score. Cleveland stranded 20 baserunners. Ezequiel Carrera reached on a bunt hit and took third on Shin-Soo Choo's single to right. Jason Kipnis walked to load the bases. Carlos Santana's fly ball to left wasn't deep enough to score Carrera. Lonnie Chisenhall...

Sandy Alomar Jr. is off on the right foot. The interim manager won game one at the helm of the Tribe behind a solid pitching performance from David Huff, 16 hits from the offense, and Chris Perez’s 39th save as the Indians took game one of the series with KC 8-5 at Progressive Field. Cord Phelps, Lonnie Chisenhall, and Ezequiel Carrera  each had three hits in the game, while Jason...

Box Score: Royals 7, Indians 6 (14 inn.)

The Indians made a valiant comeback late after trailing 6-1, but they came up short when Tony Abreu singled home Mike Moustakas in the top of the 14th as the Indians dropped the second game of the series 7-6. The Indians had a couple of painful innings where they should have been able to push across the winning run, including in the 12th when Casey Kotchman grounded into a double...

Alomar in running for Indians' full-time managerial job

Sandy Alomar Jr.'s debut as interim manager was a successful one as Cleveland beat Kansas City 8-5 Friday night in the first game of the Indians' season-ending six-game homestand. It was a nice start for Alomar, who is the favorite to be named the Indians' manager for 2013. The Indians, who fired manager Manny Acta on Thursday, intend to conduct a thorough managerial...

Box Score: Indians 15, Royals 3

Offense! There was plenty of it today as the Indians took out some frustration on perhaps their favorite pitcher to tee off on in the AL, Luke Hochevar. Ten different Indians collected a hit as the Tribe bounced the Royals 15-3. Asdrubal Cabrera, Lou Marson, and Jack Hannahan each had three hits, and Cabrera drove in four with his grand slam in the 5th inning. Zach McAllister went...

Sandy’s First Game As Manager Provides Mixed Feelings

David Blaine, David Copperfield, Harry Houdini, Manny Acta… one of these men is not a magician. Sandy Alomar Jr. won his first game as the manager of the Cleveland Indians last night. It couldn’t have gone much better, really. He got a quality start from I-71 veteran in southpaw David Huff, the piecework lineup combined for 16 hits, and the bullpen closed it out with Chris Perez...

Cruel and Unusual

by John Viril— What in the heck was manager Ned Yost doing yesterday? The Royals continued their stumble-to-the finish Sunday, getting bombed 15-3 by the Cleveland Indians. This loss makes the Royals 1-7 over their last 8 games. But, more importantly, Yost left Luke Hochevar out to dry in the 5th inning yesterday, allowing the maligned right-hander to give up 8 runs in a single...

Moustakas Out Of Beta

Mike Moustakas left yesterday’s game with a groin injury that could end his season, which would also end his sophomore slump (the “o” is silent in sophomore, like when you make love to your woman — oofa!)  The 2nd season like the 2nd Greek letter is beta.  Beta is also a testing phase when the most kinks are found.  So, naturally, we should expect guys in beta to perform...

Series Preview: White Sox at Indians 10/1-3

The White Sox have completely collapsed, a huge part of which was the Indians last series win over Chicago. Unless both Cleveland and Detroit get swept this week, the Sox are officially out of the playoffs in 2012.  The Indians seem to  have a newfound motivation with the introduction of Sandy Alomar, Jr. as manager. This team, which has struggled all season scoring runs, has...
