He was initially listed as probable to return at halftime, but was later downgraded to questionable. Rookie Toby Gerhart took the field with the Minnesota offense to start the second half.
Peterson, who needed just 20 yards rushing Sunday to hit 1,000 for the fourth straight season, was injured on his sixth carry of the day when Washington's Lorenzo Alexander appeared to roll up on his ankle. Peterson hobbled off the field, then limped to the locker room at halftime. He returned to the Vikings sideline after the break with his helmet on, but never reentered the game. Peterson gained 36 yards rushing before leaving, giving him 1,016 on the season.
