Oh, Bother Keith Olbermann's open tonight was all about Roger Goodell's more than subtle backpedal on DC radio today. If you missed it, the commish's previously rock-solid support for Herr Snyder is now all kinds of lukewarm and nuanced. Olbermann then made the telling point that this change in tone, along with an estimated $200 million in possible merch sales payday from a team name change will give the All-Daniel 200 million reasons to finally see the light. A green light, but a light nonetheless. Now, Olbermann was all over this and smoked it, but several points were missed. 1) The reason why there isn't outrage in Washington political circles about the name is that the American Indian, from a pure power standpoint, might be the least effective lobby in the history of, well, lobbying. No one in power knows, or cares to know, people on the rez; this is a minority group that has centuries of history that tells them that Getting The Hell Away From You People isn&...

Keith Olbermann’s Segment On ‘The Real Value of Sports on 9/11′ Is Worth a Watch

Even though the clip spends a bit too much time lambasting the extremely poor decision of a Wisconsin golf course (which Keith did on purpose to make a point), Olbermann ends up giving a very powerful (and short) talk on the real value of sports on 9/11. Good stuff starts happening around the 4 minute and 30 second point. “You get to put your feet up and watch something and pretend...

Roger Goodell weighs in on Redskins' name controversy

WASHINGTON — Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that the NFL should pay attention to those offended by the Washington Redskins nickname. “If we are offending one person, we need to be listening,” Goodell said Wednesday in an interview with 106.7 The Fan, “and making sure that we’re doing the right things to try to address that.” It was a subtle change in position...

Keith Olbermann shreds Bobby Valentine for 9/11 comments

On last night's Olbermann, KO named former Mets and Red Sox manager (and ESPN analyst) Bobby Valentine as his Worst Person in the World.  Sometimes that moniker carries a tongue and cheek nature, but last night was not one of those occasions.  Olbermann has been on fire since his return to sports and this lashing of Bobby V is no exception: What's been smart...

Goodell: NFL watching Skins protests

Commissioner Roger Goodell says the NFL has to pay attention to those who are offended by the Washington Redskins nickname. Goodell told 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday he is ''always sensitive to what impacts on the league'' and that includes ''making sure that we're doing what's right here.'' He says, ''If we are offending one person...

Goodell on the Redskins name: “If one person is offended, we have to listen”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was a guest on The Lavar and Dukes show on 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. today and was asked about his thoughts on the controversy over the Redskins name. “Well as you guys know, I grew up in Washington, so the Colts were my team early on and then I became a Redskins fan,” Goodell said. “I know the team name is part of their history and tradition...

Keith Olbermann Had To Give Sports A Talkin’ To About 9/11

Yesterday when former New York Mets and Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine used 9/11 to throw shade at the New York Yankees, we hoped and wondered aloud that that’d be the worst of it, and sports wouldn’t act like such a bunch of idiots about a national tragedy. And sure, while Bobby’s comments might still be the worst of it, we were not surprised to learn that our hopes...

Roger Goodell Could Add To Von Miller’s Suspension For Recent Traffic Citation

According to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to add to Broncos LB Von Miller‘s current six-game suspension. A report from CBS4 Denver came out last night that Miller received a citation for driving without a license and speeding. Miller has already served one game of his current suspension for for violating the league’s substance...

Sports Illustrated’s Oklahoma State Article Shouldn’t Shock Anyone

Someone was just telling me the other day how he thinks college football is broken. Morally, ethically and competitively, the sport has never been in a worse state than it is right now. The desire of fans and boosters — many of whom never even attended the college that they support — to win at a high level has opened up the doors of corruption to flood what should be the purest...

How Roger Goodell Will Spend Ndamukong Suh’s $100,000

(via Getty Image)In response to repeated infractions on the field and a demonstrated disregard for our emphasis on safety, the National Football League has been forced to levy an unprecedented $100,000 fine on Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh.It has been the hope of the league office that a troublesome player’s behavior can be corrected through the standard protocol...

Report: Roger Goodell Could Add Games To Von Miller’s Suspension After Citation

Von Miller’s penchant for making bone headed error could lead to the pro bowl linebacker missing more than the five remaining games on his suspension. ESPN.com is reporting that Roger Goodell could choose to add games to Miller’s suspension after the linebacker was cited for speeding and driving with a revoked license. Because Miller was arrested in August on a failure to appear...

NFL can add to Von Miller's ban

If Roger Goodell has grown weary of Von Miller's repeated legal trouble the NFL commissioner has the authority to add to the Denver Broncos linebacker's current six-game suspension. Miller is one game into his suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy and Wednesday team officials were privately wrestling with the revelation that Miller was cited last...

A Tale of Two Draft Picks

The day was Thursday, April 26, 2012. Six or seven men in their mid-to-late twenties had just finished inhaling a feast of fried food that would make Thanksgiving Day look like a hunger strike. Empty bottles battled for space with sauce-stained styrofoam containers on decades-old end tables as the majority of those in attendance tried to moan away the pain of the barbeque delivery...
