A year ago, the Dallas Mavericks failed to land a marquee free agent and rather than making any rash, outrageous mistakes in free agency, chose to play it smart in hopes of not threatening their cap space for this off-season. With plenty of cap space, Mark Cuban and the Mavs are likely to make a run at some of the big names free agents available including Dwight Howard and Chris Paul.

2012-13 Season Summary:
Though the Dallas Mavericks finished with a five hundred record, the franchise missed the playoffs for the first time in 13 years. A big part of the reason was the absence of Dirk Nowitzki who missed the first third of the season due to injury. While the Mavs were able to stay afloat until Nowitzki’s return, he was forced to be the true alpha dog without a real second banana to help take the workload off his shoulders. In the end, his supporting cast didn’t do enough to get Dallas back into the post-season.
