@   Boston leads 3-2 Gametime: Saturday 4:00 | Fenway Park | FOX/WEEI 2013 reg. season vs. Tigers: 3-4 | +8 Run differential | -2 in ALCS Game 6 Matchup: Max Scherzer, RHP  2013: 21-3, 2.90 ERA, 0.970 WHIP | 2013 Postseason: 2-0, 2.25 ERA, 0.875 WHIP Clay Buchholz, RHP  2013: 12-1, 1.74 ERA, 1.025 WHIP | 2013 Postseason: 0-0, 6.17 ERA, 1.543 WHIP Career vs. Sox: 2-4, 7.02 ERA, 1.630 WHIP Career vs. Tigers: 2-1, 3.58 ERA, 1.232 WHIP 2013 vs. Sox: 1-1, 2.57 ERA, 1.000 WHIP 2013 vs. Tigers: N/A Last outing against the Sox (Gm 2): (ND) 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 13 K  Last outing against the Tigers (Gm 2): (ND) 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 K  LINEUPS:               Check back for updated lineups       Last game: Mike Napoli hit an absolute bomb in the second inning of game 5 and the Sox never looked back. A Ross double followed by an Ellsbury infield single capped off the scoring in the inning. Napoli scored on a wild pitch in the 3rd to give the Sox the 4-0 lead. The Tigers fought back but fell short as the Sox took game 5, 4-3. Thanks again, Koji! Which Tigers to watch out for: Max Scherzer The bullpen really screwed up his last outing, and that is fine with me. His outing was greatly over-shadowed by Papi's grand slam, and people forget how brilliant he was. I would not be surprised if he exceeds double digits in the K column.. Key to Sox victory: Buchholz one-upping Scherzer All the Sox need him to do is one-up Max Scherzer. Easy enough. Prediction The Sox are going to get the start they need from Clay and it is going to be a mean duel. The Sox are going to win the ALCS tonight and it will be another nail biter, 2-1.

Buchholz Needs To Seize The Game Six Moment

(Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports)Clay Buchholz started 2013 like the presumptive Cy Young winner. On Saturday, he will face the guy who will actually win the honor—Max Scherzer. Before his baffling injury, Buchholz was 9-0 with a microscopic ERA. Since his return, he has had moments of dominance and defeatism—a troubling inconsistency that is making fans of The Carmine Hose a...

Clay Buchholz, time to deliver

Tomorrow Clay Buchholz takes what could be his best and last shot this season at making folks use his name and the word “ace” in the same sentence. It’s been a while which means his timing could not be much worse. Buchholz’ omission is made even more glaring since the talk of this American League Championship Series has been the brilliance of the starting pitching ...

Red Sox Win ALCS, Mike Napoli Loses Shirt Thirteen Seconds Later

Putting the exclamation point on one of the most inexplicably awesome seasons since 2004, the Red Sox closed out the ALCS tonight at Fenway Park, besting a Tigers team that, at least on paper, seemed a superior opponent. But this Red Sox team is built of heart, resilience, booze and your uncle’s dirty magazines, and when **** got tough, they made all the right moves. Among the...

Buchholtz vs. Scherzer: Round Two

Written by Refugee Insider Richard Studebaker in Tampa, Fla. Well my beloved Red Sox sisters and brothers, wear your lucky socks, shampoo and condition your playoff beard, and button up that same red and white jersey you haven't cleaned this whole post-season, because tonight is we have a nail-biter. What's new am I right? Tonight Game 6 of the American...

WATCH: Shane Victorino grand slam sends Red Sox to WS

The Boston Red Sox are going back to the World Series for the third time in 10 seasons. Shane Victorino’s seventh-inning grand slam lifted the Red Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, clinching the American League Championship Series in six games and setting up a World Series rematch with the St. Louis Cardinals. Detroit

Tigers rumors: Max Scherzer’s future in Detroit uncertain

Max Scherzer is a clear front-runner for the Cy Young award after a tremendous 21-3 2013 campaign, however, his future with the Detroit Tigers remains to be seen according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Scherzer is set to become a free-agent at the end of the 2014 season and as his stock continues to rise each year, he may fall out of the Tiger’s price range despite the...

Brilliant rotation not enough for Tigers

In a scene emblematic of Detroit's postseason downfall, Max Scherzer could only watch. In fact, there was little any of the Tigers' starting pitchers could have done differently to prevent another disappointing ending to a fine year. ''Normally if you pitch the way we pitched in this series, you would probably think that you had won,'' manager Jim Leyland...

Relievers can't match rotation

Max Scherzer dressed silently after his strong outing, the latest by a Tigers starter. Jose Veras did the same in an adjacent locker after his blunder, the latest by a Tigers reliever. No words necessary. Justin Verlander would not get a chance to produce another gem in Game 7. The AL championship series ended Saturday night when the Boston Red Sox beat Detroit, 5-2, in Game 6...

Recap: Napoli leads offensive attack to 4-3 win

The Red Sox head back to Fenway up 3-2 in the ALCS thanks to a 4-3 win over the Tigers tonight in Detroit. The big story: There was actually some offense for both teams. The Tigers and Red Sox each had double-digit hits tonight, despite respectable performances by Jon Lester and Anibal Sanchez. Neither starter was at his best -- especially Sanchez early on -- but neither gave a...

WATCH: Napoli's 460-foot Home Run

Your browser does not support iframes. Mike Napoli is absolutely on fire. Not only did he provide the game-winning blast in Game 3, but he did hit another last night in the Red Sox' 4-3 Game 5 win. Napoli was 3-for-4 last night and was one triple short of the cycle (which has never been done in the postseason). Oh, and that homer he hit? IT WENT 460 FEET. When you...

Jim Leyland steps down as Detroit Tigers manager

Jim Leyland is stepping down as the Detroit Tigers manager, a decision he made on his own in September. Leyland, 68, managed the Tigers for eight seasons, winning the AL Central in each of the past three seasons and the AL pennant last year and in 2006.  He has managed for 22 seasons and won one World Series, in 1997 with the Marlins. “I’m not totally retiring today, I just...

Red Sox one win from AL pennant

Mike Napoli's majestic homer began a rare early Boston breakthrough, Junichi Tazawa again bested Miguel Cabrera in a crucial spot and the Red Sox moved within one win of reaching the World Series by edging the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Thursday night. Boston returns to Fenway Park with a 3-2 lead in the American League Championship Series. Game 6 is Saturday, with the Tigers'...

It's a dazzling, frazzling ALCS

Assorted notes from the Boston Red Sox's 4-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series: Four of the five games in this series have been decided by one run. The Red Sox lead, 3 games to 2, and even their players are frazzled. "It's been draining," first baseman Mike Napoli said in a quiet moment after...

ALCS Game 6: Tigers Try To Stay Alive

The American Championship League Series returns to Fenway Park in Boston for game six with the home team holding a three games to two lead. Max Scherzer will again take the mound for the Detroit Tigers in hopes of extending their season just one more day.  He will be opposed by the Red Sox’s  Clay Buchholz. These two pitchers started game two which will go down in postseason...

Dustin Pedroia Blames Red Sox’ Postseason Success for Hair Loss, Koji Uehara, Mike Napoli Admit They’re Drained

This American League Championship Series has been a great one, but it’s taken a toll on the players involved. With all but one game decided by one run, every move has counted, meaning extreme physical and mental focus for each member of the Red Sox and Tigers. “This is probably a reason why I don’t have any hair,” Dustin Pedroia told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports after Thursday’s...
