United States women’s national soccer team star Alex Morgan is someone we clearly enjoy a lot around these parts, and sadly she got some bad news Wednesday night. Morgan suffered a left knee injury during a game for the Portland Thorns in a National Women’s Soccer League game. The Thorns lost to the Boston Breakers 2-1, then flew back to Portland Wednesday night. Morgan was expected to be evaluated further on Thursday evening. She injured her knee in the 10th minute of the game after colliding with Boston’s Jazmyne Avant. Morgan was then taken to the locker room but returned to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines while sporting a huge brace on her left knee. The 24-year-old forward is a huge part of the women’s national team and is expected to be one of the stars of the 2015 Women’s World Cup. In 68 appearances for the national team, the Cal product has a whopping 44 goals. She is known for her incredible speed in the open field and deft striking ability. As mentioned above, we love Ms. Morgan around these parts. She seems like a really humble, cool girl who is having fun with her celebrity but not taking things too far like some have (I’m looking in your direction Hope Solo). So here’s hoping Morgan can recover from this injury quickly. Despite losing Morgan and the game, the Thorns have qualified for the inaugural NWSL playoffs.
