On Friday, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez met with Major League Baseball officials in connection to the Biogenesis scandal. The meeting happened before Rodriguez’s latest rehabilitation game in the minor leagues was rained out. Rodriguez did not speak to reporters following the meeting, but sources confirmed the meeting to the Associated Press. MLB investigators are continuing their probe into Biogenesis, the closed Miami anti-aging clinic. Rodriguez previously admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs while a member of the Texas Rangers from 2001-03, but has denied using them since. His name surfaced in connection to Biogenesis in January in a report by the Miami New Times. Nothing is know about the actual meeting between MLB’s officials and Rodriguez, but the fact that it happened means the league is serious about suspending players connected to the Biogenesis investigation. Officials also reportedly met with Ryan Braun and he refused to answer any questions about the case and his connection to it. Rodriguez and Braun are among a group of about 20 players that baseball reportedly plans to suspend after the All-Star break, in connection to the Biogenesis scandal. Earlier we reported that Rodriguez was asked to pay for Biogenesis owner Tony Bosch’s legal fees but declined to do so. Bosch later agreed to cooperate with Major League Baseball instead. We also reported that Rodriguez reportedly met with Bosch during the 2012 ALCS while he was struggling mightily and eventually lost his starting spot. Clearly Rodriguez is up to his neck in this scandal and it’s not going away any time soon. He’s currently still weeks away from actually returning to the big leagues as he works himself back into shape after hip surgery.
